Is swearing a sin

Tim Hawkins is one of my fav comedians and this video makes me laugh until I snort every time!!!!

I think the sin in swearing is in the intent. Some people feel swearing is taboo, while to others it's just part of everyday speech. If someone is swearing to offend another, then it's a sin. If they are swearing to bring another to anger, then it's a sin. But if I get offended at every other word someone says in everyday speech, then the sin is in my heart.

I know people that curse left and right, but also acknowledge they are broken individuals that without Christ, they are nothing. I don't necessarily think we can judge someone if they curse or not. The Bible does speak of saying God's name in vein, though.

Well, I think we are all bright enough to know "cursing" is not the "cussing" we use today. And , likewise, it should be very well known that "using the Lord's name in vain" never was meant that we were not to say "GD", although we sure don't need to be doing that. After all, our brand of "cussing" didn't even exist in those days.

A lot of the most "offensive" cuss words are just acronyms...kinda takes the wind out of the sail. If I happen to let one slip during anger, I feel more ashamed at the anger, but the profanity is an added lashing of guilt the enemy "administers".
 
Is it true that trees can die by simply being cursed?

In the Solomon Islands, when the people want to clear the forest for planting or development, they just gather around the big tree, stand around it holding hands and hurl abuses at it the tree – they curse it.

Slowly and surely the tree begins to wither and it dies on its own.

It's Biblical so it must be true.
 
We all would do well to use fewer adverbs and adjectives in our speech.

Judging by the number of CCers I've chat with who cuss, my guess is many find it perfectly acceptable. Not a joke, either.

I'm going to repost a scripture PrynceNY already posted. I really have a hard time believing that mature Christians think it's okay to use bad language.

In Ephesians .........There must be no filthiness and silly talk, or coarse jesting, which are not fitting, but rather giving of thanks.

If you don't agree with that scripture, it's God speaking and not me. So if you want to disagree, you can go directly to God in prayer and ask Him.
