I find it hard to believe that there are people in this day and age who still believe in the flat earth theory. With all the satellites orbiting the earth, that theory should be put to rest I would think.

Well. I can understand different thoughts outside the box as we'd all be really gulable if we took what we have been taught or what we see on TV etc as true. While I don't see it myself, it still may be a possibility even taking account of satalites as they could be moving on a circular plane on a wide radius.

no, they couldn't actually. not if physics is real.

they don't carry fuel to keep themselves in flight like that. some have been in orbit for over 30 years - so in order to be circling overhead of a flat disc all this time, they would need to be carrying over 30 years worth of fuel!

and this isn't the only 'problem' -- satellites don't all orbit around the equator. some, like gps relays, are in geostationary orbit - they're orbiting at the same speed as the earth's rotation, so they remain 'hovering' over the same spot all the time. the himawari weather observation satellite for example is positioned directly over New Guinea, all the time. if the earth is flat, or if the earth isn't rotating, how are all those big chunks of non-buoyant metal and electronics just sitting up there?
and other satellites, particularly surveillance and weather orbit around the poles, or close to them - traveling at almost a right angle to the equator. if the earth is flat, these orbits are not possible, both in terms of what would be necessary for fuel consumption, and because they don't change velocity and slow down when they reach the 'south-pole rim' -- they just teleport to the opposite side of the world without any lapse in time or speed!

so our "free to form their own opinions about reality" friends here who think the earth is flat by-and-large claim that there are no such things as satellites.
although i guess some of them may just assume ancient alien lizard people working for the dozen or so countries around the world putting them up there in the sky use some kind of miraculous illuminati future tech that they refuse to share with the general public.

makes you wonder how much of it is just trolling, doesn't it?

but God's people should be as wise, not unwise. having knowledge and understanding, not chasing after fables and living in reality-denying fantasy.

Trolling? Don't you need a billy goat gruff for that? :D
I can't really say if the earth is flat or not. I don't think it is. If it is, it is flat and round. Otherwise I will be satisfied it is a globe type form.
The more I go through these last few years of thought though, the more I believe the earth has to be relatively stationary. I'm not saying it is totally still, but I am saying that I don't believe the popular scientific approach as it just does not sit right in what I see through personal observation.
Certain aspects like gravity make no sense to me if the scientists are right, but it all makes perfect sense if this planet is still.
I am sceptical about space exploration due to the foundations of how everything was put together, but I can't rule out it is taking place. I do know what we are led to believe in our modern life is certainly not what is actually happening because quite a few times now I have come across gaping "Caverns" between reality and the often twisted news reports. Not all news is twisted, but some is and it is the ones we thought were trustworthy like the BBC in UK are the leading culprits when it comes to adding a political perspective viewpoint on things. I've known totally fabricated news reports about Israel, that never took place as people I knew were there and watched the staged filming,as it happened right outside the house they lived in. It was all acted out to perfection to portray an anti-Israel viewpoint. I'm not saying that either side of a conflict anywhere is innocent, but when I see totally fabricated news one has to ask why it was fabricated and what was the purpose behind the fabrications. Sad to say SOME news reporters are not reporters but actors.
When watching news or any other thing, always do the laces. Tie in the lose ends... Look for the whole picture and don't be swayed by a single report as many of us have been living in needless fear when the truth couldn't be more peaceful if it kissed you on the cheek.

ICEsat was a interesting sat, but it ran its coarse up to 09. This paragraph below is a older one, its unfortunate the sat isn't running any longer, scientists are using planes to do it today but it's not giving the same quality of view like the sat did.

NASA's Ice, Cloud and land Elevation Satellite (ICESat) has resumed measurements of the Earth's polar ice sheets, clouds, mountains and forests with the second of its three lasers. Crisscrossing the globe at nearly 17,000 miles per hour, this new space mission is providing data with unprecedented accuracy on the critical third dimension of the Earth, its vertical characteristics.

"The first set of laser measurements is revealing features of the polar ice sheets with details never seen before, and is detecting dust storms, cloud heights, tree heights and smoke from forest fires in new and exciting ways," said Jay Zwally, ICESat Project Scientist at NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center, Greenbelt, Md.

The Geoscience Laser Altimeter System (GLAS) instrument on ICESat sends short pulses of green and infrared light though the sky 40 times a second, all over the globe, and collects the reflected laser light in a one-meter telescope. The elevation of the Earth's surface and the heights of clouds and aerosols in the atmosphere are calculated from both precise measurements of the travel time of the laser pulses, and ancillary measurements of the satellite's orbit and instrument orientation. This marks the first time any satellite has made vertical measurements of the Earth through the use of an onboard light source.

You've mentioned something very interesting. The speed of the satellite. If the earth is spinning the speed is a fraction over 1000mph. The only place one can keep satalites is just inside the outer edge of the earths atmosphere. Any further out and they just dissapear into space. Any further in and they just fall down back to earth. Now the speed is measured by using the sun as a reference point. So the earths speed being calculated by measuring the earths circumference and knowing the sun comes back at the same position the next day in 24 hours... This is where the 1000 mph comes from. So with my reasoning, a satalite to travel at 17000 mph means it has to be orbiting 17 times higher then the sun unless it has its own powerful power source. Knowing satalites are unlikely to have their own power source to speed themselves 17 times faster then the earth then something else is happening here. Now if the earth is still and everything is zooming around it, then the it does make a bit more sense to get a satalite to orbit at such a speed, but it is still orbiting very fast indeed unless again it is further out then the sun is by 17 times. Now bring it closer to the earth and it is likely to get faster with the speed of everything outside if the earth is still, but not if the earth moves. Hope it makes some sense as it is making sense to me. May not make sense to others who don't think in the same way.Having said that, 17,000 mph is still quite puzzling without a long term rocket behind it.

I apologize. I have only just read this after I posted the last comment to another poster. I've heard the lizard idea where the British royal family are lizards that transform into humans. Well. Not sure what the people are taking who believe this as it must be powerful stuff :D Sorry people but this theory is too far fetched for me... Too open minded and ones brains fall out. :D Our queen and royal family (And illuminati, and everyone else) are very human and like us, is made in Gods image.

They don't use fuel per say, though they have some onboard solar panels that keep things operating. Sats use what is called gravitonal pull. When satellites orbit, they are falling around the planet because the gravitational pull keeps the satellite in motion. The closer they are, the greater the pull is. Orbit around Earth was first thought of by Isaac Newton with his cannonball thought experiment. It stated that if a cannon on top of a mountain fired a ball, the faster it shot, the farther it would travel. He correctly reasoned that a speed could be reached that would allow an object to continue traveling around the planet.

Not all Sats travel at the same speed, A low orbit satellite requires a speed of 17,450 miles per hour in order to maintain a low Earth orbit. Satellites in higher orbits travel more slowly; for example, a geostationary satellite only orbits at 6,858 miles per hour.

Didn't they do something like that in the film called "Flubber?" The cannon ball would in theory only work in one direction being the same direction of the earths spin?
Just thinking thoughts...

Don't "just think thoughts", you need to memorize "facts" and opinions from official thinkers.

They don't always get things right as it is through official thinkingdom is how the theory of evolution was "Created".

If that cannon ball was shot out while orbiting earth then it will move the best in one direction the other way against the earths gravity pull would overcome the movement of the cannon ball that's why most Sats travel in the same direction as the earth spins. On the ground the earths gravity pull is pretty much straight down so a object like a cannon ball can travel in any direction on the surface shot out at the same speed and weight and it will travel the same distance in any direction. But they have had some Sats that had traveled pole to pole but they cost a lot more and rarely done because of cost of onboard boosters etc.. Pretty much Sats use the earth gravity pull to fly round it.

The earths gravity is 100% on the surface and well up into the sky but at a certain point it starts disappearing to 99% 98% and so on, then other veritables of gravity come into play once that 100% gravity changes to something less than 100%

Satellites for the most part coast, but are usually subject to drag forces from passing through atmosphere, however sparse it may be ((there may not be such a thing as true vacuum)). Their orbits grow smaller over time, and if they don't carry some fuel to boost themselves into higher orbit with their attitude thrusters, or a mission is not sent to move them, they will eventually fall back to earth.

Not all satellites though. There are points in space called Lagrange points, after the physicist, between any two bodies where the gravitational force from each is balanced. Anything placed there stays there - unless nudged away. There are 5 such points, L1 - L5, between the earth and the sun, and between us and the moon, for example, which are stationary orbits.

Good place for a telescope, maybe to replace the Hubble, don't you think?

Indeed and there is microgravity like you said true vacuum isn't really true vacuum. Microgravity is through out the universe.
