Is there a way to block someone from PMing you?

Yes there is.

You have a couple of options. In the PM window itself you can click the 'ignore' button which will ignore PM's from that user but only for the duration that you're in the room (meaning it's not a permenant thing and you have to enable it each time you log in if that user is there).

OR


You can go to 'control panel' on the main page - and I think it's under settings/options and you want to choose 'edit ignore list'. You can add or remove people to this list but it will ignore ALL correspondence with that person- PM's; forum posts; profile visiotr messages;chat mail etc.

Does that makes sense?

Also sorry for my terrible lack of punctuation. I am at work and the 'comma' key doesn't work; hence the awful run-on sentences. Please just imagine commas wherever they should be.

In my experience putting people on your ignore list makes no difference, doesn't seem to work. Only way I see is cliking on the ignore button in the pm box each time.
 
Well I have noticed that the ignore list works pretty fine hiding user forum comments on the selected user you have added to the ignore list. I also created a blog a week ago about disabling PMs on channel icon and making the private icon your own list of prefered added users to talk to which would depend on if the request is accepted by the user that was added to private list. what really sucks though is that I had no feedback response on that whatsoever! -_-

I can certainly understand adding trolls and alt accounts of people here but that aside, if you are excluding the posts of actual real posters just because they disagree with you, it's my opinion that you are not learning to deal with people who are different than you or think differently than you and limiting the speed of your own personal growth. I believe you should learn how to coexist with them and grow. My two cents (ok a penny then).
 
Ageofknowledge i hate to break this to you buddy but your analyze about me is way off as i only delete trolls putting up false comments etc. but seeing as though you made a good judgement, i respect your opinion on that.

I have loads of people on my 'ignore list' and it works just fine. I have to 'unignore' them in order to see messages from them etc.

There have been times when apparently people on my ignore list have been sending me chat mail but I haven't recieved it because I have them on ignore. So, it definitely works!

I appreciate you making me aware of what you actually meant, but you could have just type ''if people'' instead of adding'' if you are excluding the posts of actual real posters just because they disagree with you'' so that it wouldn't have been quite obvious that you were refering to me. because I mentioned about ignore list that deletes/hides selected users forum comments and you then added an opinion on this feature after me which looked like you were assuming why i would be using it. but yeah anyway thanks for being specific this time and godbless you too :)

sorry for lifting this up again since it was written a while back... but i just want to figure it out ... why there is a need to block ppl ? is it hard to talk things over with that person and settle all up? how do u deal with ppl in reality ? there u wont be able to block them .

Rus, sometimes people will not take a no for an answer. I personally rarely use it, as the person get an idea after I tell them I'm busy and can't PM, they usually understand not to bother me right then. However, I have had one or two who continue on, and so after the third or fourth PM, I will block them.
 
yes , i understand it ... but still .... well , guess this topic botherd me a bit ... we all dif and act dif on the same things thats all what i can say ....

To me, a PM is similar to a telephone call. And if I get prank calls or obscene phone calls, I have those numbers blocked from my phone. The same with PMs in chat rooms. Because this is a Christian chat site, I have not had overtly obscene PMs but there definitely have been comments that were way too forward, inappropriate, and/or disrespectful. I have occasionally had to block men who PM'd me to flirt (despite my "married" status), and I had reported the repeat offenders. Given the anonymous nature of the chat room experience, some people do not show proper respect toward others because they can get away with it since no one may know who they really are.

Fortunately, I haven't had to block anyone lately, and I have put up a notice on my PMs letting people know that I don't accept PMs from men unless I know them well.
 
I've never had to implement these. Personally, I think it's [relatively] easy to sidestep people and whatever it is about them that irritates you.

But I'm grateful for the option, nonetheless.
