Is this gossip?

So needless to say I'm not crazy about my job, but including myself we have 4-5 great workers. The problem is two nights of the week, I come in behind the worse worker in our department (in my opinion the worse in the store). I have complained to managment about the extra mess he leaves me to clean up, they won't do anything, I was told every shift is responible for cleaning after themselves, but not him we have 6 push carts, and he always leave trash on all of them, and all over the place.


So would you consider it gossip to complain about someone leaving you, his work load along with your own? I'm sure I not the only one with this problem. I ask because at church yesterday, I thought God was speaking to me about this matter.

Thanks Jimmy, for the third time in two days, I can honestly say I am spiritually yelling from my feet being stump on.:eek:
 
The bible says that if you have a problem with someone's behavior..

(I'm paraphrasing here..)

First, go to that person privately and discuss it with them.

Second, if he/she still does not listen then take a couple of witnesses with you and talk to them again in private.

Third, if they still won't listen, take the two witnesses who were with you and all three of you must report that person to the authorities.

Matthew 18:15-17 ESV
15 “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. 16 But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every charge may be established by the evidence of two or three witnesses. 17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church. And if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector.

I'm confused as to why you would question if it's gossip. Yes. Of course.

You might find this helpful. Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen. Ephesians 4:29

I would ask him to take care of this first. Complaining about a thing repeatedly makes one look bad in the workplace to the boss. Bosses prefer that we find more constructive ways to handle disagreements. Be a problem solver. :) What's that saying? "If you aren't part of the solution, you are part of the problem."
 
Also gossip to me implies a lack of truth about the whole thing. Being honest well thats different.

One can hurt lots of people and divide people by slander. Satan is a slanderer, He's called, the accuser. Christians shouldn't spread negative facts about one another true or not.
 
I'd ask him to clean up after himself.

I would make a pretty card, take pictures of his mess, take pictures of how its suppose to look and give it to him. perhaps with some chocolate or something and leave it at that.

think of it as an act of kindness and love for him. He may not appreciate it and may make even a bigger mess but you may not know why he seems incapable of doing what is expected.

perhaps someone close to him just died or he didn't have any one loving at home to teach him the importance of cleanliness or love and appreciation or good work ethics or give him a firm sense of responsibility.

perhaps if you pray God will show you a way to help him want to do better and move forward in life instead of free falling.

losing his job may push him over the edge, sometimes we have to love others enough to clean up the mess and hold on to them, even when they would rather just jump and end it all.
 
Reporting to your boss, real activity, that actually hinders you in the practical execution of your job tasks, is NOT gossip.

His failure to do HIS job, influences YOU doing YOUR job well.

If you are not doing YOUR job well, because of this fella's mess, that means YOUR boss and owner are getting less than ideal work. Less than ideal work HARMS their business.

Reporting this fella to them is an exercise in stewardship to me.

You are a steward of YOUR specific job and also as part of that business as a whole.

How is it good stewardship to not at least report activity that is harming your job and their business?

Now if you're just going to go on a griping campaign to coworkers about this fella, then that is more along the lines of gossip.

But it's stewardship of YOUR job and THEIR business to report this guy to the boss/owner, seeing his mess is hindering their business. Is there anyone higher up on the food chain you can appeal to, seeing your 'management' isn't taking it seriously?

Zeroturbulence--I very seldom see him, and it has been a long time since I have seen him, when I did he like to talk about how hard he works, but what little I watch of him, no.


Brandon there is nothing I have said that is untrue, (so I don't see it as gossip; as Ephestians 4:29; Philippians 2:14 would say yes it is wrong of me to complain, but I just don't see it as gossip). Others that have seen him work don't want him in there department.


Julianna, I wish this was the case I have try to get out of this department, because the workload is a bit much for one person, but the store manager said NO! I have left him a note about some problems, but this one has gone unsolved. Advice if you ever work in Wal-mart stay out of Produce, if you do a good job, You ain't getting out!

1Still_waters--I have reported to my several bosses, one even told me he was skinny so couldn't lift much. :( But the zone manager is the one that makes me angiest,he hasn't done anything to me, but the other 2nd shift person who is excellent at her job, he tells to do a better job, and says nothing to this person. Thank God her vacation ended yesterday, it will help to have her back.


Last night he worked, and I to no shock came into an empty banana table, so I was shocked to see the produce backroom half clean. But I think that is because I talk to one of the excellent workers on first shift, the morning before. The gal who works second shift has asked him several times before to fill bananas while she does something else, and he says I don't feel like it.
 
I agree with those who have said that reporting problems to supervisors is not gossip, but I never do this initially unless it's something dangerous or jeopardizes the company in some way. And, even then, I go in with a solution to the problem for their consideration. If it's not a critical issue, I will mention it to the person first, sometimes in a general statement to everyone.

EXAMPLE: If I worked in a produce department and someone was leaving it messy, I might say something like, "Hey guys, I cleaned up in here a little bit. I was afraid someone might get hurt. We really need to clean up after ourselves."

Sometimes it's helpful if other co-workers support this. Not in a malicious gossipy way, but in a we're-all-in-this-together team spirit kinda way.

If that didn't work and the guy was really a slacker, I would say something ONCE to management, but I wouldn't be a chronic complainer. Once they know about it, it's their problem.

It's difficult to have a good work ethic and work with those who don't, huh? :)

I was going to reply but just read what still waters said again. Counts for what I would have said.
 
Praise God! He is going to another department, I truly hope he does better there!

Before I clocked in to work last night a gal in another department said, he was transfering to her department. I have been on cloud 9 all night and morning. If I didn't get that message I would have put in for a transfer to another store.

This is in the context of church discipline, I don't think you can use it in the same way, though going to them privately might be an idea.
