When people call Isaiah 53 the “Fifth Gospel,” they aren’t exaggerating. Though written over seven centuries before Calvary, it reads as if Isaiah had stood right at the foot of the Cross. No other Old Testament passage unveils the heart of the Gospel so clearly — the innocent Servant suffering for the guilty.
Isaiah 53 is the Gospel — the good news that our sin was laid upon the spotless Lamb of God, who bore our punishment to bring us peace.
May we never lose the wonder that what Isaiah saw by prophecy, we now see fulfilled in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Isaiah 53:5 (KJV)
“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”
In these few verses, we see the entire Gospel message:“But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.”
- The incarnation of the Servant (“He shall grow up before Him as a tender plant”)
- The rejection of the Messiah (“He is despised and rejected of men”)
- The atonement (“The LORD hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all”)
- The resurrection and reward (“He shall see of the travail of His soul, and shall be satisfied”)
Acts 8:35 (KJV): “Then Philip opened his mouth, and began at the same scripture, and preached unto him Jesus.”
Philip understood this truth when he met the Ethiopian eunuch reading Isaiah 53. The timing was no coincidence — the Holy Spirit Himself orchestrated that encounter.Acts 8:29 (KJV): “Then the Spirit said unto Philip, Go near, and join thyself to this chariot.”
Think of that! A man traveling through the desert, reading about the suffering Servant, and the Spirit sends a messenger right to his side at that exact moment. Only God could arrange such perfection. It’s a reminder that the same Spirit who guided Philip still guides us today — aligning moments, conversations, and hearts so that Jesus Christ is revealed to those who seek truth.Isaiah 53 is the Gospel — the good news that our sin was laid upon the spotless Lamb of God, who bore our punishment to bring us peace.
