Bummer. They were saved by faith, because even though they followed the law they knew the law did not save. The law was intended to have a people comport themselves righteously and morally. It did not save people.

Faith in what? The d,b,r like you and I? You and I were saved instantly upon belief having Christ’s righteousness imputed to us. They did not have Christ’s righteousness imputed to them, if so, they would have been present with the Lord upon death.
The Saint Apostle Paul's letter (epistle) to the Romans chapter 4
4 What then shall we say [a]that Abraham, [b]our forefather, hath found according to the flesh? 2 For if Abraham was justified [c]by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not toward God. 3 For what saith the scripture? Read the bible literally. David was punished by God for committing adultery.
Do you understand what the term imputed righteousness means?
After we are born again we are in Christ and Christ is in us. We, by nature have no righteousness of our own, we are but filthy rags, the only righteousness that we have is the righteousness of Christ imputed to us and in us. David was reborn the same way that we are today.
You keep using the term imputed righteousness without understanding what it meant.
So if David was punished by God for his sin, how can jesus righteousness be imputed to him?

The Book of Romans chapter 4 speaks of King David's sins.
6 Even as David also pronounceth blessing upon the man, unto whom God reckoneth righteousness apart from works, 7 saying,

8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not reckon sin.
As does the song of king David. The Psalm chapter 51
David was a sinner saved by God's grace. He repented of his sins, even adultery and murder, and God forgave him.
There is no one, besides Christ, that does not sin. When you sin do you feel the chastening rod of God that pricks your heart that brings you to repent of that sin? We do not lose the imputed righteousness of Christ when we sin. When we sin we lose our fellowship with God until we repent. We do not lose our eternal inheritance every time we sin. Once we have been born again and have the imputed righteousness of Christ we never at any time lose our new birth. Yes, God does punish the same sin twice. Those that Christ died for are looked upon by God as holy and without blame as far as our eternal life is concerned.
