Agreed. But I think you would have to agree that, in today's environment, some "Christian" churches don't either.
 
Going back to where this whole thread started (cuz I don't feel like starting a new one anyway :P ), can we get some opinions about Christians celebrating Halloween? Since there's not even a Christian basis for that one, should we go along with it and dress up and trick-or-treat?

I grew up doing that, and I think my mom tried to impress upon us that as Christians, we shouldn't dress up as anything dark or gruesome; that we were never to even pretend to be witches or whatever. Now as a mother myself, I don't know that I want to let my son be involved in it at all, despite feeling like it didn't do any damage to me as a child and I understood the difference between good and evil (therefore also God and Devil).

What do other people think about this?
 
I always liked it too :) I'm conflicted about it now though because my husband wasn't allowed to celebrate it growing up, and he's raised the question about letting our son dress up for it or not.
 
do you also discuss Easter egg hunts and Santa Claus with his little elves?

i've seen some people post about those two topic too

personally I think you need to pray together and ask God what He wants you to do.

sometimes God ask His people to do things most would think are kind of "against the rules" for example cooking food over human dung...he did out of mercy change it to cow dung but anyways. We follow God not legalistic rules and regulations but the promptings of the Holy Spirit to lead our lives.

What does the Bible say about it?

I think as children, we all had a little bit of God in us. That flame within. I know that I could pray very easily to God, not like a preacher prays, but when I was scared I could talk directly to GOD and I knew He was there. I think we were brainwashed out of that.
 
then inside of us, you can call it God quickening our Spirits, or be it someone witnessed something amazing, or strange, or maybe they just thought "there has to be something more" at times like this, satan needs to take extra care to plant seeds of doubt. What if someone who is strong in God starts to talk to the lost when they are receptive to hear it? surely satan must do something to interrupt the flow of truth

In Jeremiah 10:1-4, 8 the Christmas is called a doctrine of vanities. Which is pretty accurate considering it has noting to do with Christ. It was formerly known as the Roman pagan holiday Saturnalia (the celebration of the winter solstice) which began Dec 17- Dec 25. Ending with the murder of an enemy of the Roman providences to destroy the dark forces. Early Christians wanted to attract the masses so they told them that they could still celebrate it, and to make it seem more Christian slapped Christ birthdate on it. Christ birthday is not given in the bible however it does say that the shepherds were sleeping outside watching their flocks, (Luke 2:8) which wouldn't have been near Dec. as that is their rainy season. In fact this date wasn't used as Christ birthday until 354 A.D. by Bishop Liberius of Rome.
And as far as Easter goes, can anyone tell me what an egg and a chicken have to do with Jesus' birth?
Sounds more like it was derived from the fertility goddess Eostre (a.k.a. Eastre). Jesus even told us that he would be in the grave for 3 days and 3 nights (Matthew 12:39-40), try getting that from good friday to easter sunday. Not to mention Matthew 28 vs 1 tells us that it was the end of the Sabbath (saturday) when Mary arrived to find him already gone.
Sunday service is another man made tradition when God only hallowed (made holy) and sanctified (set apart) the last day, and commanded us to have a holy convocation (gathering) and do no servile work therein (Exodus 20:11), (deut 5:12-14), as was Christ's custom Luke 4:16. Hope this answers ur ?.

wouldn't the end of saturday be sunday?
 
true, but who knows how long before that was? we know that He hadn't yet ascended to the father. It could have been hours before or moments before. Either way :) praise GOD He did, whenever He did.
 
and I agree, very much of our so called "religious" traditions are based around pagan tradition
 
True, fortunately we have the internet even an encyclopedia will tell us that the Roman emporer Constatine changed it, i think around 370 A.D. not to mention the bible doesn't say it changed but even predicts that Rome would think to change times and laws. All we have to do is look at a calender and see which is the last day, though I hear they're coming out with calenders which will have Sunday as the last day. They never cease to amaze me.
 
I know, its almost laughable. When one looks at the world through spiritual eyes, the world itself testifies to the existence of a spiritual battle and the dominion the king of liars has on this planet.
 
Halloween used to be my favorite holiday as well. But since I've begun to question holiday practices as "glorifying to God" or Un-glorifying to God" I have overwhelmingly come to the conclusion that there is nothing redeemng about Halloween that makes it glorifying to God. Where I once saw "harmless fun" I now see evil. Almost all Halloween decorations glorify death, decay, superstition and fear--certainly not things of God. As for letting children dress up--even in harmless costumes--and get candy is still participation in a ritual that 1). orginated in Pagan culture 2). is part of a holiday that glorifies evil.

I agree that dressing up in costumes and getting candy is great fun--especially for children. So I scoop up clearance costumes after halloween and allow my daughter to dress up anytime she wants to--just not as part of the halloween celebration. As for getting candy or being part of a school halloween party--we allow her to have the time off of school to do something special with mom or dad--a movie or something, but allow her to make the choice for herself. We explain what we think about halloween, but we allow her the choice to participate or not.
