I'm not trying to disrespect anyone who may feel depressed and suicidal which does include celebrities, it's something that is serious in itself to not be taken as a joke. But one thing that irks me out of this whole Robin Williams passing...
Why does it seem like depression and suicide not seem to matter to the public (mainly social media such as facebook, twitter, tumblr etc from actual users) until Robin Williams' passing? Why did it not matter while he was alive or when you hear on the news that someone committed suicide or just suicide in general? It has been around long before Robin and other celebs who committed suicide were around. Why does it seem to matter and shock nationally now ever since he died?
And the funny thing I've realized was that they say Robin has been battling for decades for his addictions, rehab and 'his inner demons' and nothing was really said until he passes away. Doesn't that ring a bell to people who may have experienced/are experiencing and it seems like nobody hears or cares until something drastic has to happen? Robin Williams is really no different, he was just the end result of the reaction once he committed suicide. And just to say, I'm not promoting in any way that people have to do this in order to actually be heard, but when we feel this way we're apparently being irrational to others who probably are in this hype of Robin now. Well...?
Otherwise while he was on drugs people saw him as a druggie, think nothing for when he was in rehab and now it's a shock that he's gone and this is in hopes to promote 'suicide awareness'. It makes me think about Michael Jackson with how it was a trend to dislike him and make fun of him based on the allegations against him and then once we hear that he passed away, everyone brought their attention onto him and acted like they were long time fans because it was the 'in thing' to do when a minute before we hear of his passing, we just claim he was a pedophilia child molester that was going insane and by then people took drastic measures once he died. Whitney Houston on how people saw her as a druggie and made jokes but then it became not so funny once she died. I'll admit, some songs from her got to my attention when the hype of her passing was around, but I never really knew much about her before she died anyway.
Honestly, nothing surprises me anymore. Annoyed, yes, but not surprised. Not even just saying this based on social medias and celebrities, that's the least of my concern, but more so of the subject itself where people can simply pass things off and make jokes but then it becomes a serious matter once they find that person's dead (meaning the 'common people'). I can never get people because it's always the same old song. And it's even sadder that celebrities have to be used as examples for people to even think on deeper subjects for once. So honestly... Are we really that evolved of a species, at least when it comes to the intellectual level? Parrots can repeat themselves and actually learn and pick up from what they do while moving on and progress to something else to build up from there, but with humans it's just a see, do and forget, repeat and it's still some shock as if you never seen or heard of it before. Of course, this person has to have significant importance before the concern even becomes relevant on certain subjects.
And people wonder why I don't like society? If anything, maybe it's best to stay off of the social sites...
End of rant. I'll leave the comments open if anyone wants to say anything in response...
