Most of the time, I'm cold with the a/c on in summer. A couple of weeks ago, we had a nine day hear wave, and it was fine in the a/c. But yesterday, it was so hot out it was hot in. Usually when I go out to water the garden, I get a big sigh of relief coming in. But it felt no different yesterday. I thought it was making meatballs, but it was so hot three hours after eating them, I felt sick.

Today is hotter. I remember when we had a triple digit number heatwave a few years ago, and it felt hot in, but this feels worse. It's 81 degrees inside. Worse yet, our bathroom has no a/c.

I don't want to cook dinner, fold laundry, or even move.

How do you Southerners survive like this for most of the year? And what in the world does your electric bill look like? Is it bigger than the rent/mortgage?
 
$80 in winter (if you can call it winter), $150 in summer. That's for a 2-bedroom, 900 sq ft apartment.

Remember 100+ days of triple digits in 2006 or so...pretty much the norm.

Hope you cool down.
 
I haven't idea what the bill was when we lived in Georgia, but I do remember often dreading to go outside. Camping without an AC, of course, was a silly notion, because even at night it was too hot to be comfortable,much less sleep.

Did you mean, "Camping is a silly notion, because there are bugs crawling in to sleep with me, that is most certainly NOT a bed, and it's too hard to install the electricity, a/c, and plumbing into the tent?"

(I am so not a camper. lol)

:D The part of Georgia we were in, the only bugs we actually had to worry about were mosquito. Where I live NOW, there are also additional biting gnats, ticks, and even worse, chiggers.

But any way you look at it, camping in a tent is a very silly notion indeed.
 
the heat is unpleasant down here, but you get used to it. my electric bill for july was $288, but that was higher than normal. normaly it is around 200 or so. but trust me, we do not like it!!
 
All year round, my electric bill NEVER goes higher than $36. I have my window fan on 24-7, along with my computer. I rarely use the stove and last year even slept with my window open at night during winter. Only because Vermont got hardly any snow or cold weather at all last year. :o

I don't suppose I qualify as a southerner, living in northern Nevada, but I run a fan with my air conditioner, which helps keep me cool and the costs down.
 
I live in Michigan, and once lived in SC for 3 1/2 years. You have a big bill in the summer in the south and a big bill in the winter in the north.
 
hi lynn,
summer is over here, but not the baking, boiling and broiling in the heat even when u try to catch the cool early morning breeze. a few yrs ago, i would go out w/ a light sweater when it rained, but now i dont bring any extra wc i wont be using by the time i return anyway. been raining all week the past week, but neither use blanket either. i just think be thankful i wasnt in a desert, or even in the flood-prone areas.
