My roomie got married two weeks ago, in the DFW area, where his wife is originally from. So, all of his friends and family came out to DFW. Basically, his wife was the last adult in her family and amongst all but two of her friends to be married. And all of my roomie's family is married, too...so just his friends are there, single.
So there we are in the reception hall...DJ calls all married couples to the floor. Except for children and teens, all the tables clear...save for ONE table, where sit the three groomsmen, two of the groom's friends, and the bride's two single friends.

*sigh*

(My profile pic is from that wedding, btw. Groomsman that weekend. Best man the weekend before. God's digging his elbow into my ribs and smirking.)

We feel your pain, Shae. And if some of us haven't yet, it'll happen sooner or later.

My best bro who served as my "divorce mentor" got married. His wife had left in much the same manner as my own, just as he was completing seminary. This was about 6 years prior to my wife's own departure. No one had embraced him through the process, they just gave him empty advice and told him to buck up. He had in turn committed to help the next man he knew who had it happen. I was lucky to know him. He got me through the first year of things. He made sure I remembered to pay my bills on time and to, well, eat. He also kept me sane when my (nearly)ex had the kids for two week stretches over the summer. My second best divorce friend was similar - psycho ex went off the deep end after embracing clinical depression, etc.
The got married just before Christmas. I was fortunate to be Begged to be the sound-man for the wedding. I hid in the balcony, anonymously bawling my eyes out for a multitude of reasons, not the least of which was that I felt a sense of hope and a sense of despair simultaneously. Oh, and they used one of my favorite songs:

I dunno if this is way off topic & if so I apologize now. I remember in my old church I was asked to be in 6 (yes 6!) weddings in 2 1/2 years. With each one I grew more & more cynical & poor. Every time I had to go get a stinkin' tux it was like $150 (that was like a weeks pay back then & I was single living alone) I know I looked stunning in a tux & I was just so cool that all my friends wanted me up on that alter on the big day with them, but it got really old, really fast. Everyone in my church was getting married, except me & a gaggle of misfit men & women in their late 30's to early 50's. I was trapped on the island of misfit single christians. The I stumbled upon a website that changed my...er...huh? oh no...that wasn't me...ok,anyways....I ended up eventually leaving that church & married a heathen.LOL See,that's all you have to do to break the cycle of being invited to weddings, either as a guest or as a member of the grooms party. So who's this John,shae...catch me up to speed. Oh & ty for not making a stupid face with duck lips in your avatar!

john was an amazing man who I fell in love with and he was gold to me. he passed away in October and being there was bittersweet I left

I left early and snuggled my kid

As much as I can, I get that.

I didn't go to the reception At All when my friends got married...
I went back to the groom's house & watched Walking Dead on his DVR and snuggled with the bride's dogs on the couch.
It's good to know the alarm code at places other than just where I work.

For some reason, when I first read that I understood it as meaning that the picture you were describing was your avatar, and I thought "But...that's an MLP..." :P

Shae, I don't understand what it feels like to have been in love and lost it, but I do understand feeling so alone in a room full of people, even if they're talking to me. You did the best thing: Run to God. He is our Comforter and He knows exactly what we're feeling, even if no one else does and even if we're putting up a front for other people.

Thank you for starting this thread Shae. i actually avoid this singles forum, as i sometimes feel it doesn`t apply to me. Its been almost a year.....

Today, I am feeling the pangs of loneliness, and that awkward misfit feeling described above. :) ( I am visiting our home community; many folks from our past) While I cannot relate to your loss, i grieve in another way.
The previous posters are so eloquent in their descriptions of feelings -- I`ve been trying to avoid.

When I see singles forum, I think twently somethings wanting to meet a life mate...
Or desperate 40 somethings ....which is even worse cause I`m 40 :) (not desperate!!)
loneliness, awkwardness, grief -- its real.
Thanks for being real. I feel a little less lonely.

I hope that you will feel more comfortable joining in this forum now, piper. We're more about healing, learning, encouraging and sharing a laugh here than some sort of dating site. :)
