Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.

By confession you are inviting others to pray for your sins. A righteous believer or a more disciplined believer's prayers can be powerful and will do others great good.

In less you are a Catholic lol.

Most of us probably do to our spouses, friends, study groups, pastor or trusted accountability partner. So you may not see much of it in less you are one of these trusted positions.

I used to be a left footer, but don’t agree with priestly ‘confession’. have been in all the above except pastor & accountability partner, but always admired people who ‘share’. I think it’s humbling, & Bringing it into the light, opens up the door for deliverance (via prayer)we all have skeletons 😐

Confess your trespasses to one another,
That word is "faults" as correctly shown in the KJV. Not "sins" (ἁμαρτίας)
as shown in the modern versions, based upon the corrupted Critical Text. Only Young's Literal Translation has "trespasses".

KING JAMES BIBLE
Confess your faults* one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.

RECEIVED TEXT

CRITICAL TEXT

The church community during this time was a bit different than it is today...they shared one another´s lives...
They didn´t just go to church then after church was over, go about their separate lives.

They knew one another, they interacted with one another...
There was bound to be offenses and sins against one another, as well as, since each knew one another, pointing out sins that one might have overlooked...therefore they needed to confess to one another...and forgive one another...and did

A man (William R. Parker) in California conducted a test of this. He was a psyc professor, he organized three groups of people with problems, 15 to a group to test ways to solve their problems. One used a psychologist, one used half hour a day asking God to take the problem away, and one group used facing their sin and putting God in their life. After a year he reports on the results. The group asking God to take care of it without first learning how to pray was the looser, praying as God tells us the winner.

In this test the people who spent half an hour a day for a year asking God to take care of their problem came out with the problem not only not helped but it was sometimes worse. These people all believed in the Lord. Why do you think their sincere prayer didn't work?

The KJV translation of James 4:3 is: 3 Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye may consume it upon your lusts. The NIV translates this as "pray with wrong motives".

This group was praying amiss, and that had its own results. What was amiss in their prayer?

Agreed. But v.few people confess their trespasses, do they?
Kind of hard to serve two Masters .Closets or people. Even in the garden demonstration the work of salvation was reckoned by two working as one labor of love. The disciples were put to sleep not being allowed to share the burden or work of sufferings prayer. It is the work of one Spirit working in us to both will and empower us to do the good pleasure .

We are to forgive. Remembering with us to forgive is to remember we have . His forgiveness in respect to our sin is cast as far as East is to West . No Hail Mary's needed .Love keeps no record of wrong suffered.

The idea of one corrupted creature forgiving the sin of another and casting it as far as east is from west .Would be like saying your spouse will never be in disagreement with the better half.

The prayer of faith (God's will ) will heal the suffering of wages of sin. Casting it as far as east is from west.

The raising up promise is only associated with sin. A call to repentance. It does not say raise one up from a common cold or a broken bone . Those take the gift of patience. long suffering . The first work of the love of God in us then it can be kind and not keep a record on wrong suffered. . . Building up towards. Love does not rejoice with inquiry it keeps working revealing the truth of God the gospel.

And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. James 5:16

The verse speaks for itself, i admire Catholics because they do this more often than Christians do.
