Has anyone heard of the story circulating about this pastor?
He was supposed to be new to his congregation of 10,000 and on his first day to preach, he went to the church dressed up like a homeless man and only a couple of people even stopped to say hi to him. He walked around the church for 30 minutes and most of the people there just ignored him. When the introduction was made for the new pastor to come forward, the homeless man came up to the front and he ended up criticizing his congregation for their lack of compassion.

Apparently the story is a fake but I attached the article in case anyone wanted to read it.

snopes.com: Pastor Disguises Himself as Homeless Man

Wondering how you guys feels about this approach, even if it didn't actually happen.

I think a lot of churches today would give the cold shoulder to someone like a homeless man. Which is unfortunate, but not surprising. We as people don't really think of others. We are centered on ourselves physically and psychologically. Have you heard that saying, "You'd be surprised how little other people think of you?" It's true. If you don't think much about other people (other than family), why do we think other people think of us?

I do know of several churches in my area where a homeless/addict/less fortunate person could walk in and be treated very well. They would be spoken to with respect, offered some food, and invited back the next week.

Churches like that give me hope.

I know of a church who do a lot of work amongst the homeless, drug addicts etc. It is a big church but they now have to insist on everyone keeping their valuables, bags etc stored in lockers or kept with them at all times.

I attended a smaller church and a while back we had a homeless drug addict coming into church. He was known to the police but he seemed ok. Everyone was put on a guilt trip to accept and 'love' this guy. One Sunday the 14 year old daughter of a couple in church went forward and was knelt down at the front writing her note to God. This guy got up from his seat, walked up behind this girl and in front of her parents, the congregation, worship group and leader proceeded to simulate having sex with her from behind.

The only saving grace from the whole sorry incident was that the daughter was totally unaware what had happened. She also had a mental age of 8. After the initial 'did he really do what I thought he did' shock had abated several chaps wanted to punch his daylights out. It seemed the guy knew we as Christians were a soft touch and he could do as he liked to try and shock.

Anyway, he was advised not to return and around a year later we heard he had died from an overdose.
