Can one be saved without 'knowing who Jesus is'?

A very short would be 'No'!

Although, that would not explain the reason why you cannot have a real saving faith in Jesus without knowing who or what it is you are having faith in. What does believing in the name of the lord Jesus mean in the first place? Who is he? what did he do? Is it applicable to me? Do I need him to save me? You see no one can have faith in something they do not know about 'Faith comes by hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ' (Rom10:17).

Saving faith can only come through the work of the Holy Spirit in ones heart (John 3:1-9), and by hearing the word- the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This does not mean that a newly born (again) christian will understand the Godhead totally, but they will confess Jesus as LORD (God- Yahweh). To confess anything else is to confess something other than the gospel proclamation.. which means they have not heard the gospel at all.

Many have come to be saved without knowing JKesus is God because it is not alwyas presented to them that way. We assume they know it because they say I need Jesus. the majority Jesus is presented as The Son of God who came to save us as John 3:16 is quoted to all unbelievers. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever will believe in Him will be saved. We hear Jesus dies for your sins and mine that no matter what you have done in life he will forgive you. A lot of people dont even go to church or ever been to church these days. I never seen a baby come into the world understanding Mamma or Daddy from anyone else. We grow in the knowledge not we have the knowledge already. Jesus saves is what most people understand.
By the way the Gospel message is not Jesus is God. The gospel message is the good news that Jesus saves us from sin and not one can get into the kingdom of God without being saved.

There's so much I don't agree with here. We have the wrong view of John 3.16. I think when we read this particular text we envision Jesus standing atop a mountain side while speaking these words ('For God so loved the world...') to a body of people, and lose sight of the fact that He was speaking only to one individual, namely, Nicodemus.

Keep in mind that Nicodemus was a Jew. The Jews thought they had a special relationship with God, and that they were His chosen people. Can you imagine a Jew hearing the words that Jesus speaks here in John 3.16? When Jesus says, ‘God so loved the world…,’ not for a minute did Jesus ever wish to convey the thought that God loved/loves all the inhabitants of the world. Rather, the point that Jesus is making is that God's people consist of more than Israel alone, but consists of gentiles as well... the ‘world’ in the eyes of a Jew – people from every tribe, tongue, and nation (Revelation 14.6, Revelation 5.9), the children of God spread abroad (John 11.51-52, ‘Now he did not say this on his own initiative, but being high priest that year, he prophesied that Jesus was going to die for the nation, and not for the nation only, but in order that He might also gather together into one the children of God who are scattered abroad’).

Jesus' message to the world was never, ‘God loves you so much and wants you to be with Him,’ or anything of the sort, but one of repentance. Jesus’ divinity is a crucial part of the gospel message, like it or hate it. The Jews knew precisely the implications behind Jesus’ self-affirmation as the Son of God (John 5.18, 10.28-39, 19.7).

For me I was taught as a child and therefore had no confusion now this is what I instill in others. The Bible teaches us in every aspect Who JESUS is and once we receive the HOLY SPIRIT it is confirmed and Revealed unto us. With GOD there is Never confusion but yes GOD does give us more and more clarity as we take this Journey with GOD.

Blessings!!!!!!!

You are quite right as to what the gospel message is. And that gospel under the inspiration of the holy spirit is, Jesus, the son of God died for our sins. Tragically that is not enough for some, but it was for Jesus.

To take a scripture out of the bible and make a case based on the words I am He does not prove nothing. Read the context of the passage and you will see Jesus mention the Father as well as himself as the Son.
[SUP]17 [/SUP]It is also written in your law that the testimony of two men is true.
[SUP]18[/SUP]I am One that bear witness of Myself, and the Father that sent Me beareth witness of Me.”
[SUP]19 [/SUP]Then they said unto Him, “Where is thy father?” Jesus answered, “Ye neither know Me, nor My Father. If ye had known Me, ye should have known My Father also.”
[SUP]20 [/SUP]These words spoke Jesus in the treasury as He taught in the temple, and no man laid hands on Him, for His hour was not yet come.
[SUP]21 [/SUP]Then Jesus said again unto them, “I go My way, and ye shall seek Me, and shall die in your sins. Whither I go, ye cannot come.”
[SUP]22 [/SUP]Then said the Jews, “Will he kill himself, because he saith, ‘Whither I go ye cannot come’?”
[SUP]23 [/SUP]And He said unto them, “Ye are from beneath; I am from above. Ye are of this world; I am not of this world.
[SUP]24 [/SUP]I said therefore unto you that ye shall die in your sins; for if ye believe not that I am He, ye shall die in your sins.”
[SUP]25 [/SUP]Then they said unto Him, “Who art thou?” And Jesus said unto them, “Even the same that I said unto you from the beginning.

There are many scriptures that teach us Jesus is God no one is denying that fact. So whe nyou read the post read it as it is written not as you already have come to a conclusion that it is from a false doctrine.

Did you read the scripture of testing the Spirit? It was the first thing I posted. If they do not confess... please read the scripture do not take my word for it look at what God says.

You just proved my assertion, yet again.

True worshipers worship God as Triune.

Father
Son (Truth)
Spirit

True worshipers are the ones' Saved....and they are Saved because they worship God as Triune.

Simple, Biblical truth.
It's simply referring to one's already saved. They will be worshiping the Father in Spirit and Truth.

YES! JESUS says so...... TRUTH, simple and true.

(quite different. very different, from much of this forum, let alone the world.....)

just take a look some day, if yahweh permits, at the last 100 threads posted in.....

try to find ..... no... never mind.... just ask the FATHER to show you what HE wants to show you..... it is flabbergasting/ astonishing/ devastating, yet simple and true also..... in HIM only.

It's simply referring to one's already saved. They will be worshiping the Father in Spirit and Truth.

So, the OT guys are in hell. Won't they be surprised.

simple. check / test like the Bereans: what does the bible say ?

the bible says that all the gentile nations were without God and without hope in the world -
(and they were considered unclean, and called dogs, by the Jews, in Scripture)

also,

did you not read the NT ? multitudes are SURPRISED !! when Jesus on Judgment day tells them "be gone .... I never knew you" .... (they had been given over to believe their own delusions , their own lies, because they refused to turn to God to be saved...)

So, the OT guys are in hell. Won't they be surprised.

No disrespect, so please do not read any sort of attitude into my comments here. But how does this even work? Can we really argue this? What about the OT patriarchs? How many years transpired after Moses' death til the time Jesus came in the flesh? How are we to believe that Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Noah, Ezekiel, or Elijah knew of Jesus as the Son of God?

I believe the answer is in the dispensations... the new covenant was not in effect until after Jesus' death (Heb 9.15-17), and thus could explain several things (including the thief on the cross),

[SUP]'[/SUP]Therefore he is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant. For where a will is involved, the death of the one who made it must be established. For a will takes effect only at death, since it is not in force as long as the one who made it is alive.'

I wonder if the thief on the cross knew that Jesus was God in the flesh?

Luke 23:39-43 (KJV)
39 And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.
40 But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?
41 And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.
42 And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.
43 And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.

In post #112 on this thread, I suggested that since the new covenant was not in effect until after Jesus' death (Heb 9.15-17) that the thief on the cross was under the old covenant,

Also, in regards to the thief on the cross we overlook the fact that Jesus had the power to forgive sin on earth (Matthew 9.2).

Hello there,

I was twelve years old when I was made aware of my need of a Saviour. I was told that all had sinned and come short of the glory of God, and that included me. That the wages of sin is death! But that the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ His Son. I heard, I believed by God's grace, and I was sealed for eternity. Praise God!

My understanding was limited, but God's wasn't. I am His workmanship. He is the 'Author' of my faith, and He is also the 'Finisher' of it. The good work which He began in me, He will continue to do, until the day of Christ. He is faithful. He is true. Praise His Name!

What a Saviour!

:)

Also I wanted to just briefly say that my point about the thief being under the old covenant is that, like the OT patriarchs, he did not need to know Jesus as the Son of God in order to be saved. However, I do think that Jesus makes it known to the thief that He had authority to forgive sin (and all other implications that come along with it).

Can someone call out to Jesus, knowing he can save you, and he will? A definate yes.

When you meet Jesus you meet a man of love saying I am here to help. When you hear the knock, you open and ask Him in.
It is an emotional and life contract, said as a sinner, knowing the lostness and emptiness within, and that this man can help sort it out. The centurion who believed Jesus could heal, the woman who touched Jesus, because by touching God would move, the thief on the cross, saw this man was very very different.

I think this emotional contract is salvation, and only then do the fuller contexts become understood once they are experienced. For me the greatest spiritual highs have been seeing and knowing the Lord, becoming a man, dying and coming through that sacrifice into my life. Seeing the dedicated walk into pain and suffering, not flinching but walking straight into the lions den, and laying His life down, when at any point he could have just said, enough, no more.

How many of us hate the dentist, or giving blood, or having a plaster taken off when a wound is healed?

It is a walk, so where you start does not really matter, it is walking to the end that counts.
The phrase "born again" does not speak properly to people. Or you must be like a child to enter the Kingdom of Heaven.

It is about being remade, to change, to become somebody and something else. What you will see and read is a plaster type path, a patching up, an acceptance of failure, and a giving up, a settling down to the compromises and hypocracy that is always present.

Some here say you have to believe this or that? No, you just have to meet Jesus and believe.

I know what your post started with and that is: Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world. [SUP]2 [/SUP]Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
That is based on false teachers not saying Jesus is or is not God. Therefore you statrted you post talking about false doctrine. This is not about false doctrine it is about if you can come to Jesus and he receive you if you don't know him as God at the time you come.
