JESUS Weeps
HE laid down HIS life for us
As we are called to lay down ours for
Our brothers & sisters (1 John 3:16)
Yet today, we walk by God’s children
And pretend we do not see…..
JESUS weeps!
Everywhere we see poverty and hunger
Yet we waste so much and share
So little. HE taught us to share,
Commanded us to invite the poor
To our banquets as honored guests…
And we do not hear….
JESUS weeps!
We pride ourselves in our appearance
And buy multitudes of garments.
He taught us to recognize the goodness
In giving our brother one coat when we
Have two… yet even when our closets are full
We see our less fortunate neighbors in rags…..
And we do not share……
JESUS weeps!
We hear the weather forecasts, protect our pets
From the badly contaminated air, turn up the heat
In our homes and our Churches when it drops below freezing,
Cool the same when the heat becomes too dangerous and
Never give a thought to our poor neighbors who cannot afford
To do either, or consider our neighbors who live outside… the
‘Lepers, the unclean, the Samaritans’ of HIS time.
Our homes, even HIS home our Churches, keep the doors
LOCKED against them, fearing them rather
Than listening to the message of our Christ……
JESUS weeps!
We sit in faithful attendance each Sunday, singing hymns and
Mouthing HIS praises, vowing to live HIS
Holy word in our lives, then we so easily forget HIS
Command ‘what you do for the least you do
to ME’ without thought or conscience.
Our Pastors, the church elders, our Bishops cite the
Dangers found everywhere today,
While forgetting the simple directives of our LORD…..
JESUS weeps!
We tell ourselves we give money to the charities, vote for the
Politicians who promise to help, pray for our
unfortunate neighbors and call ourselves Christians.
Our hands remain clean because we never
Actually embrace these children of GOD, we dismiss them
With platitudes and distant donations.
JESUS came back as HE promised, and we failed to recognize
HIM in our arrogance and our apathy. Evil grows
Ever stronger daily, and we shake our heads and ask why.
That was JESUS begging on the off-ramp, that was
JESUS sleeping on the sidewalk, that was JESUS looking through the
Restaurant window and in the grocery store, hungry and
Alone. You never saw HIM… you simply didn’t care….
Judgement Day came, and you stood at the gates of Salvation,
Seeing Jesus but finding yourself invisible……
And JESUS wept!
