Job 17

He is trying to prove himself innocent and does not deserve these troubles -verse 10

He also feels hopeless..

he thinks he is about to die

think he thinks his friends want to take his land

verse 5 He who informs against his friends to get a share of their property—

the eyes of his children will fail

he feels more hopeless. Hope is a positive imagination. Like Romans 8:24-25 says, "For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for? But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it." Hope is seeing something positive with your imagination (in our heart) that isn't here yet. Mix hope with faith to produce results in the physical (Hebrews 11:1). When you're down and nothing seems to go your way, as in Job's case, it's so important to hold on to hope. Otherwise you'll see the negative in everything as Job was doing with no hope in sight. It's a hard thing to do, but God gave us the ability to have hope when there seems to be no hope, like Abraham (Romans 4:18 "Who against hope believed in hope, that he might become the father of many nations, according to that which was spoken, So shall thy seed be.") It's important not to consider our bad situation and focus on it (as Romans 4:19 points out that Abraham did: "And being not weak in faith, he considered not his own body now dead, when he was about an hundred years old, neither yet the deadness of Sarah's womb"). I believe we can learn from Job's and other's mistakes/examples so that we can live a better way, like it says in 1 Cor 10:11, "Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come."
