Job 6
Just as his friend was giving him hope , may be that wasnt just enough and so he felt it tasteless like worse of food, donkey, ox
It was not the outward but he was also talking abt Job's character Verse 29-30
this chapter he is telling his friends they are wrong and then at the end in 30 he says "Cannot my palate discern the cause of calamity"
He who withholds[d] kindness from a friend
forsakes the fear of the Almighty.
The fear of the Lord is to keep us from sin but maybe it is saying if we don't love and show kindness to a freind who is dying we arent having fear for the Lord
maybe sometimes we can have less compassion on people if we think they are being punished by God for doing evil.
Job replies to Eliphaz and speaks of how much pain he's in...which would outweigh the sand in the sea! (verse 3) Yikes =O
Then he goes on to talk about how his friends are of no help and unkind (verse 14-21). When we put our hope in things or people, we will be disappointed at some point. That's why we should have our hope and confidence in the Lord so that we may have help in our time of need, as Hebrews 4:16 says ("Let us then approach God's throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.")
I also love that you said in your earlier notes that "maybe it is saying if we don't love and show kindness to a freind who is dying we arent having fear for the Lord" and "maybe sometimes we can have less compassion on people if we think they are being punished by God for doing evil" I think that's very true.
In verses 24-30, Job seems to be defending his righteousness by saying things like "show me where I have been wrong" (verse 24) and "Relent, do not be unjust; reconsider, for my integrity is at stake. Is there any wickedness on my lips? Can my mouth not discern malice?" (verse 29-30). To me it sounds like in his heart he thinks he's pretty sinless. It just reminds me to be careful of how we think of ourselves because even though we may be doing better than this person or that person, we are all still sinners and come short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).
