JOHN CHAPTER 3:1-18

I will be copping the bible verses from Bible Hub King James version. The bold is my teaching, thoughts, ect.

This is one of the very first bible studies I ever had. I got it from a group of Christians on board ship while I was in the Navy.

Verse 1. There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews

:

Nicodemus is a religious leader of the Jews, He is not a civil leader.

Verse 2. The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him.

Notice Nicodemus came by night: He came under the cover of darkness because He did not want the other Pharisees to know He wanted to know more about Jesus. He did not want to loose his position on the ruling council of the Synagogue. “synagogue is a Jewish church”

Rabbi, a Jewish leader and Head Pastor. We know thou art a teacher come from God: Notice He did not say I know but We know; He did not want to separate himself from the others in his church. How does know Jesus is a teacher come from God? By the miracles that He was doing.

Verse 3. Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God

. Jesus know why ol Nick was there He wanted to know how to become a believer in Jesus. What did Jesus tell him he had to do? Be born again.

Meaning of born again in the Greek: Strong's Concordance; anagennaó: to beget again

Original Word: ἀναγεννάω
Part of Speech: Verb
Transliteration: anagennaó
Phonetic Spelling: (an-ag-en-nah'-o)
Definition: to beget again
Usage: I beget again, beget into a new life.

HELPS Word-studies

313 anagennáō (from 303 /aná, "up, again," which intensifies 1080 /gennáō, "give birth") – properly, born-again or "born from on high."

313 /anagennáō ("born again, from above") is used twice in the NT (1 Pet 1:3,23) – both times referring to God regenerating a believer (giving a supernatural, new birth).

[313 (anagennáō) "does not occur in classical or Septuagintal Greek. Any use elsewhere (i.e. outside the NT) is disputed (cf. Moulton-Milligan; Selwyn, First Epistle of St. Peter, 122)" (CBL). This underlines the importance of its two occasions in the NT (1 Pet 1:3,23).] We will get more into this as we go along. He can not enter the Kingdom of God: If you want to enter the Kingdom of God you must understand this.

Verse 4 Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?

Poor Ol Nick just didn't understand he is thanking he must go back to his mother womb and be born a second time.

Verse 5. Jesus answered, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God

You go into labor The water broke and the baby came. That is the first birth. Nick did not understand that you come to an age of chose when you have to choose who you are going to serve; you can choose to follow your mortal soul or spirit “meaning liable to die” of ask God through the blood of Jesus to give you a new spirit, the Holy Spirit that is the second birth a spiritual birth.

Verse 6. That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. Verse 7. Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.

Jesus is chiding Nicodemus. Lets put this in today's words. You are born first of the flesh the physical birth then you can make a choice to be born of the spirit of God the Holy Spirit. Verse 7. Why are you surprised; you an elder, a leader of the biggest church downtown not understand this simple thing I am telling you must be born first of water, from your mother then of the spirit From your Heavenly Father.

Verse8.The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.

The wind blows where ever it wants you can't see it you don't know where it comes from but you see the effect of it; it is the same thing that happens when you receive the 2nd birth you don't see it but you know where it comes from “God” and you can see the change of the people that get it. They change God becomes there first priority above family, friends ect. They get a hunger for God's word they want to know how to become a better follower, disciple, student of Gods word and Gods way's.

ose so you need to get it right.
