Join the Army?

I know many people will be against it, but I really feel I want to join the South African Army, join the reserves or something. Both my Grandfathers were in the army and I like the discipline and order within the army. I'm doing International Studies at university now, and I want to do a post-graduate degree in Law after these 3 years.

I've never had a set career I've wanted to do, and the degree I'm doing was almost chosen for me. I'm just following what I believe is God's plan for my life. I'm going with the flow and trusting God to lead me.

What are your thoughts on joining the army and do you think it's advisable? I know for a fact I'll get no support from friends and family on this and no one would think I can do it. Any wisdom? :) Thanks.

I was about to say choose a different branch, but you're from another country haha!

In the U.S. the Army has it really hard. they're 90% sure they're going to go overseas for at least 18 months at a time. Unlike the Marines, who are gone for 6 months, and back for 6 months.

If you honestly believe that God wants you to go into the military I say go for it! I think whoever wants to join and protect their country is someone who should be admired and respected!

Because I'm in the Lord's Army!


Be a soldier of the cross.

I was in the U.S. Army for two years. I really do not know what to tell you since you are joining a different army. I could tell you about the U.S. army but I do not think that will help. God is not always against his children joining the Army but I believe He hates it when we go to war for the wrong cause. I believe God is with the U.S. on the war against terrorism. God wants the U.S. Army to win! God bless.

I guess I'll just have to keep praying about it and see where God leads me. I want to go where he leads and do what he needs.
