When I first went to a Bible college and I was beginning to really dig into the Bible even though I had been raised in a christian church and school most of my childhood it was not until college that I really started questioning and search for validations, in the Bible,(since I was there for a minor in Theology) for what I was raised to believe. The first thing that I began to question was the validation for why today's christians are so bent that the 1st Day of the week was the Sabbath vs. the 7th, when after reading the whole Bible its clear to me that Sunday NOT the sabbeth but only the day designated to learn about Christ in the early Chuch. Acts 2 is the only validation that anyone could ever present to me, and the language is not strong enough to support this severe justifications. To sum my opion is that we 'should' recognize on the Sabbath on the 7th day. That being said I can't say that I am representing that in my actions to be honest.

My husband once found a passage in Is. that suggests that Gentiles that choose to worship on the Sabbath day will be rewarded more in Heaven for trying to do so, however, for Gentiles it will not prevent them from Heaven or be looked as a sin. This is my paraphase and I will have to re-locate that verse and post later. Thanks for presenting this thread for discussion.
Isaiah 56 has part of what you've said. I'm pleasantly surprised that you have not been brainwashed by the "Bible" college.

Why people fight for the commandments is because in Galatians it talks about the laws and that they were put here as a tutor, but now with Jesus we no longer need that tutor. The reasoning is that our Lord Jesus has taught us to live in love and through love all things are fulfilled including the commandments. As for defiling the commandments in our hearts and action, the false since that is taught today is Christians no longer sin after they have accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior, and received the Holy Spirit. That is false teaching, no man or woman is perfect. Doubt, worry, and anger will always be there even in the best of us.
And people are fighting about that because the misunderstand Paul in Galatians. They are not relating it to what was going on at that time, and what was happening (if you read Acts it tells you) that the Jews wanted gentiles to live like Jews to be saved. They called it the law of Moses sometimes and just shortened it to circumcision at other times. Today, many are saying it means to ignore much of what God teaches about everlasting law. They say Paul was opposed to God. They say Paul said anything of his race he was born in was wrong, Paul had turned against both God and His race. That cannot be!

It's even crazier when the so called Christians have fought so hard NOT to have the Ten Commandments removed from public places only to defile them in their heart and action.

That's a good thought, and one I never considered. If the Torah is null and void and we are not under the law anymore, what difference does it make if they remove the Ten Commandments. Thanks for that. :)

[SUP]Luke 23:56 [/SUP]And they returned and prepared spices and ointments, and rested the Sabbath day according to the commandment.

I'm going to try to live as much as possible as Messiah lived. If the Sabbath was his day of rest, it will be mine.

It was not only His day of rest, He created it...

Gen 2:1 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.
Gen 2:2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.
Gen 2:3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.

Joh 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Joh 1:2 The same was in the beginning with God.
Joh 1:3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.

Col 1:16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:

Well I knew I was being brain washed in my younger years so I went to a Bible college so I could be armed with the knowledge to prove or disprove every thing I was taught. It was a pretty good plan because as an adult I have the ability to think/reason for myself rather than blindly follow tradition. (and I am female too :-)...with a sense of humor). Plus I chose a college that was non denominational so my Bible teachers were from many different backgrounds not all one type of Protestant religion. Incidentally my colleges' Dean was Billy Grahm in the 50's.

I feel sorry for you all that baptist teaching stuck in your head. The gifts have ceased, speaking in tongues is of the devil. man do you need some good ole Pentecost. Its hard to find these days, most pullpits promote psychology and self help. That won't do dirt for you. Its a shame that the church has fallen to humanity rather than the cross.

Not sure about yours but the ones I experienced had psychology and counselling over bible studying - the reason I said brainwashing, sorry.
Not sure what Billy Graham was like in the 50's but I know what he's like in his 50's and on. To me he's questionable.

James 2
8 If ye fulfil the royal law according to the scripture, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself, ye do well:

9 But if ye have respect to persons, ye commit sin, and are convinced of the law as transgressors.

10 For whosoever shall keep the whole law, and yet offend in one point, he is guilty of all.

11 For he that said, Do not commit adultery, said also, Do not kill. Now if thou commit no adultery, yet if thou kill, thou art become a transgressor of the law.

12 So speak ye, and so do, as they that shall be judged by the law of liberty.

Romans 13:

8 Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law.

9 For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

10 Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law.

SO, which of the 10 Commandments can we break now?

Can we now bow to graven images? Take the Lord's name in vain? Worship other gods? Steal from our neighbour? Kill our neighbour? Bear false witness against our neighbour?

Usually its just the 7th day Sabbath that Christians want to get rid of. They well know it sounds too ridiculous to claim that they can break all the other 9 of them.

If you love your neighbour will you kill them or steal from them? OF COURSE NOT!

When Jesus said the two greatest commandments are love God and love your neighbour, he was quoting the Old Testament in Deuteronomy and Leviticus. Loving your neighbour isn't some new thing that Jesus came up with, the people had lost sight of that and were merely keeping the Law outwardly. That's why He said the Religious Leaders tithed mint and rue but neglected the weightier matters of the law like kindness and mercy etc. He said on these two laws, love God and love thy neighbour hang the whole law and the prophets. Love God encompasses the first 4 commandments and love thy neighbour encompasses the last 6 commandments. It isn't as if it is OKAY now to violate any of them now "because Jesus died on the Cross".

WHY did Jesus die on the Cross? is it so we can go break the 10 Commandments?

Titus 2:14
Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.

He died so that you would start KEEPING the Law, not so that you have a free pass to go out and violate it.

I think we're all agreed that we can have fellowship on the first day of the week, but the 7th day is the Sabbath, ok....but there's still dissension in the ranks. So I guess a better question is, assuming you succeed in remembering the Sabbath, how do you go about keeping it Holy?

The emphasis seems to be on just not doing anything evil....this gives me trouble...LOL not kidding! I'm playful, it's hard for me to catch myself sometimes. Especially if I'm bored. So I was praying about it, and someone called to offer me a job at a group home friday night and all day saturday, 24 hours between those two days, which is also just enough to cover my living expenses, but I wasn't really worried about that part. It's an interesting answer to prayer, because for me service is where it's at, but it's work to be me without distraction.

Shabbat Shalom you guys!

Colossians 2:16-23 (NASB) [SUP]16 [/SUP]Therefore no one is to act as your judge in regard to food or drink or in respect to a festival or a new moon or a Sabbath day— [SUP]17 [/SUP]things which are a mere shadow of what is to come; but the substance belongs to Christ. [SUP]18 [/SUP]Let no one keep defrauding you of your prize by delighting in self-abasement and the worship of the angels, taking his stand on visions he has seen, inflated without cause by his fleshly mind, [SUP]19 [/SUP]and not holding fast to the head, from whom the entire body, being supplied and held together by the joints and ligaments, grows with a growth which is from God. [SUP]20 [/SUP]If you have died with Christ to the elementary principles of the world, why, as if you were living in the world, do you submit yourself to decrees, such as, [SUP]21 [/SUP]"Do not handle, do not taste, do not touch!" [SUP]22 [/SUP](which all refer to things destined to perish with use)—in accordance with the commandments and teachings of men? [SUP]23 [/SUP]These are matters which have, to be sure, the appearance of wisdom in self-made religion and self-abasement and severe treatment of the body, but are of no value against fleshly indulgence.

Colossians 2:16-23 (NLT)
[SUP]16 [/SUP]So don’t let anyone condemn you for what you eat or drink, or for not celebrating certain holy days or new moon ceremonies or Sabbaths. [SUP]17 [/SUP]For these rules are only shadows of the reality yet to come. And Christ himself is that reality. [SUP]18 [/SUP]Don’t let anyone condemn you by insisting on pious self-denial or the worship of angels, saying they have had visions about these things. Their sinful minds have made them proud, [SUP]19 [/SUP]and they are not connected to Christ, the head of the body. For he holds the whole body together with its joints and ligaments, and it grows as God nourishes it. [SUP]20 [/SUP]You have died with Christ, and he has set you free from the spiritual powers of this world. So why do you keep on following the rules of the world, such as, [SUP]21 [/SUP]“Don’t handle! Don’t taste! Don’t touch!”? [SUP]22 [/SUP]Such rules are mere human teachings about things that deteriorate as we use them. [SUP]23[/SUP]These rules may seem wise because they require strong devotion, pious self-denial, and severe bodily discipline. But they provide no help in conquering a person’s evil desires.

These verses you gave do not apply to the 7th Day Sabbath of the 10 Commandment Law. This applies:

Matthew 5:17 Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil.

Matthew 5:19 Whosoever therefore shall break one of these least commandments, and shall teach men so, he shall be called the least in the kingdom of heaven: but whosoever shall do and teach them, the same shall be called great in the kingdom of heaven.

Doesn't Colossians 2:14-17 do away with the seventh-day Sabbath?
Not at all. It refers only to the sabbaths which were "a shadow of things to come" and not to the seventh-day Sabbath. There were seven yearly holy days, or holidays, in ancient Israel which were also called sabbaths. These were in addition to, or "beside the sabbaths of the Lord" (Leviticus 23:38), or seventh-day Sabbath. These all foreshadowed, or pointed to, the cross and ended at the cross. God's seventh-day Sabbath was made before sin entered, and therefore could foreshadow nothing about deliverance from sin. That's why Colossians chapter 2 differentiates and specifically mentions the sabbaths that were "a shadow." These seven yearly sabbaths which were abolished are listed in Leviticus chapter 23.

According to Romans 14:5, the day we keep is a matter of personal opinion, isn't it?

Notice that the whole chapter is on judging one another (Verses 4, 10, 13). The issue here is not over the seventh-day Sabbath, which was a part of the great moral law, but over the yearly feast days of the ceremonial law. Jewish Christians were judging Gentile Christians for not observing them. Paul is simply saying, "Don't judge each other. That ceremonial law is no longer binding."

Ugh! The facebook, twitter and etc icons on the right side of these pages that are sticking out are SO annoying! Is there any way to get rid of them permanently?

You silly people should loose your physical religion and get into a Spiritual God:http://biblehub.com/hebrews/4-8.htm you all pick out verses but don't take the time to understand them properly. The promise is yet to remain in a Spiritual rest for the faithful. Simple stuff to understand without all your religious 7th day sabbath mumbo jumbo.

I find it so strange that the entire church that sincerely tried to follow Christ and scripture decided on Sunday worship in the first place when it clearly is not scriptural. The only scripture they had for it was Paul telling it was the spirit and not the day chosen, and that was to not have people say those who worship on Sunday couldn't be saved. Also that there was a meeting, not worship, but just a meeting told of in Acts. And that it was discovered that Christ had arose, discovered on Sunday. That as opposed to the many, many explanations of what God expected of us on the Sabbath.

It is only recently that many people are reading scripture about this. There seems to be an awakening, a change in the world. The origin of this, it seems to me, came with the understanding our scholars have acquired as a result of archeology like the deep sea scrolls, so the OT isn't such a mystery.

I told our retired, elderly, saintly minister about the Sabbath. He was outraged at me, but he truly believes in scripture. In all his studies, he hadn't even thought about scripture and Sabbath before, and was amazed that scripture did not back up Sunday worship.

Not sure what Billy Graham was like in the 50's but I know what he's like in his 50's and on. To me he's questionable.

By Baptist Brainwashing: I meant Sunday is Sabbath (don't question that or your a heretic), dancing for any reason is evil, most Christian contemporary music is evil because it has a beat, only baptists are going to heaven everyone else is mislead by the devil, if your Catholic your not a Christian, if you drink wine your going to hell, if you're divorced don't come to our church because we all think your inferior to us, don't mingle with non-Christians because you are seen as exposing yourself to evil doers, even though all the kids are all believers we need to demand that they go up for all the alter calls and play old rugged cross because otherwise you are guilted into thinking you are a bad person. I don't no why they always did this because the whole town knew church was filled with a bunch prude, self-righteous, hermits, that no one visit anyway. It was always the same crowd of 150 people. We even had one widower and a divorcee (due to partner adultery) start dating and they kicked them out if the church because it just 'looked bad' and they man was the head deacon's cousin. So by brainwashing I mean absolute Legalism, self righteous judging and hypocrisy.

None of the above beliefs above do I hold to above because they are not of the Bible, just so no one misunderstands me.

I say again, if the Sabbath isn't a delight to you, you have bigger problems, and if the Sabbath is a delight to you, then it doesn't matter what day it's on. It does still exist though, the Sabbath, it's a thing that is. Whatever you wanna do with that information is between you and God. I could work all day on the Sabbath, because I'm a priest forever of the order of Melchisedek through the one who is my life.

Guys and gals. The ten commandments are still in effect save one. That is the Sabbath. The Sabbath was included because the cross had not yet happened. Jesus is the Sabbath. The other 9 are the institution of law in any nation. Howbeit you might not be killed or imprisoned for adultery, but it will reek havoc on your life and because the law of man no longer punishes it. God has allowed things like aids and diseases to take its place. The keeping of the Sabbath was not is not repeated in the NT for the simple reason that Jesus is the Sabbath. The Sabbath was a time of rest, there is no rest without the cross. We were slaves and bound and ruled by sin, but the cross set us free and gave us rest. Absolute nothing wrong with church attendance on Sunday or Saturday or Wednesday or Friday or any day. The question that matters is where is your faith, in a day or the work of the cross?

First my faith is not in the "work of the cross" the piece of wood did noting, the blood of Messiah has cleansed me by the mercy of Yahweh.

Where does it say "Jesus is the Sabbath?"

Also the Sabbath represents the 1000 yr reign, something NOBODY has entered yet, therefore Hebrews says:

Hebrews 4:1-11, "Therefore, since a promise of entering His rest remains, let us fear so that none of you should come short of it. For this message was preached to us, as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not benefit them, because they did not share in the faith of those who obeyed-- However, we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said: So I vowed in My wrath, They will not enter into My rest, although the works were finished from the foundation of the world, For He spoke in a certain place of the Seventh Day, in this way: And Yahweh rested the Seventh Day from all His works. And in this place again: If they will enter into My rest. Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, Again, He designates a certain day, saying in David: ''Today,'' after so long a time, as it has been said: Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts. If Yahshua (ben Nun) had given them rest he would not have spoken afterward of another day. Therefore, there remains the keeping of the Sabbath (word G#4520) to the people of Yahweh, For he who has entered into His rest (word G#2663) has also ceased from his own works, as Yahweh did from His. Therefore, let us be zealous to enter into that rest (word G#2663), so that no one may fall after the same example of unbelief."

You're going to have to show me a Scripture on that. Can you produce a single scripture that says the Sabbath is the only commandment that doesn't have to be kept. Because in my scriptures, out of the mouth of Yahweh, he says: Exodus 31:13-17
"And you speak to the sons of Israel, saying, You shall surely keep my Sabbaths; for it is a sign between Me and you for your generations; to know that I am Yahweh your sanctifier.
"And you shall keep the Sabbath for it is holy for you; the profaners of it surely shall be put to death; for everyone doing work in it, that soul shall be cut off from the midst of his people.
"Work may be done on six days, and on the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, holy to Yahweh; everyone doing work on the Sabbath day surely shall be put to death.
"And the sons of Israel shall observe the Sabbath to do the Sabbath for their generations; it is a never-ending covenant.
"It is a sign forever between Me and the sons of Israel; for in six days Yahweh made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed."

Forever is not done yet; how can the Shabat be done?
