Well thank you man, and just to be clear I wasn't really asking people if I was right or wrong, just interested on there take on what I was saying. Pretty much what you just gave me. Thanks for the input thought brother, and like I said before I do agree with what you're saying completely as well. LOL, I can't lie, when I started going to God in prayer on this issue I was nervous about exactly where it would lead, which in it's self shows I was coveting it too much at that point, and to be very honest my consumption rate is in a steady decline as well, so I may very well be being lead away from it by the Spirit, but I am in no way what so ever trying to indorse smoking weed for everyone, and at the same time not trying to say it's just ok for me. I do however agree that we are each in a PERSONAL relationship with our God, and we must head Him regardless of if we what to or not. Again thanks for the input brother, and may God continue to pour His grace out on you and your family.

I am not opposed to medical usage of this drug or any other drug.

....so when elections are held, a ton of liberals will be to stoned to make it to the polls?

I'm sorry. Did I say all demoncrats smoke pot? I'm sorry if I did.

You kinda did.....apology accepted....Thanks

I will not put a thief in my lungs to steal my brains. I was as alcoholic before I got saved. I understand addiction. With me there was no struggle. God delivered me in an instant.

Me too, from porn and my video game addiction, but even when I go to Him in prayer the Holy Spirit hasn't lead me to feel convicted about this particular issue. Pot is NOT physically addictive, mentally a case can be made admittedly, but I was also addicted to pain pills at one point and I can assure you it is NOT the same thing. I do agree that you can get to a point where you FEEL like you need to smoke all the time, but if it's taken away you do not get physically ill like with ANY OTHER man made drug's addiction. Also once I was regenerated I was already at a point were pot didn't effect me at all like it did before. I don't get "drunken" off weed. It doesn't interfere with my relationship or communication with God at all. That was one of the main things I checked first was if being high made the Holy Spirits guidance less clear. It didn't for me, I still weep with gratitude from the Holy Spirits conviction when I'm meditating on the gospel, I still hear His voice when I pray, and I still want nothing more than to draw closer to Him whether I'm high or not. For "ME", it doesn't seem to get between Him and I, and I don't feel it's wrong at all, again for me. So can your feelings on the matter be forced to apply to my case? Can mine be forced on yours?

I can see, and understand the case you are presenting about why you feel YOU shouldn't do it, but don't think that makes it automatically apply to every other Christian, just as my view should be forced on anyone else. I also want to ask one thing, if you made it into edible's and didn't smoke it, would that make it less of a sin in your eyes?

I just recently learned from a group of mentally ill people I minister to, that most of them are on marijuana. Apparently they have refined the strains so that some help anxiety, some strains help depression or bipolar disorder, etc, etc.

So these people go and buy legal medical marijuana and use it to treat their mental illnesses....

EXCEPT:

These people are not stable, they are delusional and they also flip out when they lose their supply. They con people out of money to pay for the drugs, they lie and steal to buy it.

SO:
My thought is that this whole medical marijuana to treat mental illness is a terrible scam, and an excuse to get stoned. I really need to deal with these people and their pot addictions, but I have not had the nerve, sensitivity, etc, to kindly tell them it is not working, and not lose it with these people. Besides, I don't think they will listen. I think that people will always choose their addictions over a friend who wants to help.

There is no need to smoke (very bad for lungs). One can get marinol prescribed by a doctor, pill form methinks, if your doc will prescribe it. MJ is still federally illegal. It is a watershed in American history that the feds are ignoring this big defiance of federal law by states.

However, IMHO, MJ needs to be legal, and also some other popular illegal drugs, because the law is not enforceable against them, and having these drugs illegal contributes to crime in a big way. YOu just can't have a law against something while the populace in huge numbers chooses to disobey that law.

Moreover, drugs sold on the street are of uncertain content. MJ may be laced with cocaine or PCP angel dust. Heroin may be cut with rat poison! If the drugs are to be sold, they need to be Pharmaceutical grade or some rational control of the content being sold, and sold by legal distributors.

The Bible has no specific commandment against drugs, though there is plenty of admonition vs drunkenness, and addiction to alcohol is called slavery. Trying to legislate perfection is an enemy of the good.

i'm not sure about marijuana's value in dealing with mental health issues but i have stage IV prostate cancer and it works better than the opiates that were first prescribed for pain, (oxycontin and a second form of oxycontin that was sustained release.) marijusna isn't addictive. smoking is certainly bad for my health but at 75 i'm not worried. by the time smoking kills me i'll already be dead for 5 years, and i won't spend my remaining time addicted to opiates

Legalizing abortion did not make it alright with God.

Hopefully one of you Americans will explain the basic ideologies behind the republican and democrat, and I mean BASIC!
oh please! :p
IMHO:

Democrat is pro-union, welfare state, baby-murder, sodomy-rights, illegal immigration, socialistic, humanistic, huge government, huge tax & spend (& call that "invest"). Blacks are almost all Democrats, though the Democrats used to be the southern party of slavery. They oppose voter id laws (so illegal Hispanics can vote illegally for them!) Traditionally Roman Catholics & Jews have been democrats. Women elect democrats.

Republicans have different wings (sub groups). They tend to be conservative, pro-business, spend money on the army, opposed to baby-murder, more sympathetic (or pretend for votes) towards Christians, not huge but big government, against raising taxes, spending more, but not as much more as the democrats. They favor shutting down the border so illegals from the south will be impeded from flooding the country. They want only citizens to vote, so favor photo ids to vote. White men vote Republican.
Many years ago the Republicans were this new radical party that was opposed to slavery.

I've heard this guy once say.
"I'm not addicted to smoking...I've quit lots of times"

I am so for the legalization of marijuana (and I'm mostly a conservative). The war on drugs (with marijuana as it's main moneymaker) was made by an anti-Semitic criminal to save the paper industry. Hopefully the ignorant masses will see the coming good-examples from states that have legalized. They are places that don't send their none-violent offenders off to prisons to face the possibility of assault, sodomy, and murder.

By voting to legalize marijuana, you are not condoning its use, but are refusing to condone the countless tragedies that have occurred as a result of it being illegal.

Alcohol and pot are both an unhealthy waste of time. But, that's MY choice. I won't support laws that keep pot illegal because if someone wants to smoke dope, that's their decision - regardless as to whether I endorse their actions or not.

That's the problem I have with a lot of people interested in politics. They want to force everyone to abide by their own standards without realizing one can have personal standards AND allow other people to be free without condoning their actions. Voting to legalize pot doesn't mean you think it's good to smoke pot, it simply means you believe people should be free to do what they want with their own bodies. And I know, some of you will go on about how our bodies belong to God - but we're supposed to be free to decide whether or not we abide by God's laws or if we even want to consider ourselves to be owned by God... in fact, we don't even have to believe in God. All of these are choices that shouldn't be forced by government.

Lastly, I'm going to digress a bit and point out that Christians should support separation of church and state because if you look throughout history, governments almost always abuse religion for their own personal gain. If you let the government use Christianity to support laws, you'll find them using your religion to support things you don't personally condone and that you feel you religion doesn't condone. Hitler is a wonderful example (albeit a very extreme one) in which he bastardized Christianity to support his own horrible agenda.

Making excuses to legalize sin and justifying it. God see right through you.

Legalizing abortion did not make it alright with God.

Outlawing abortion is understandable since it ends the life of a living being.

Outlawing marijuana is to make it so people can't choose what they do with their own body.

Harming other people should be illegal, but demanding people lose the freedom to do what they want with their own body is plain corrupt, close minded, and incredibly petty. You may look at marijuana and say "This is a sin, OUTLAW IT". But whether or not we abide by God's laws or even believe in God is OUR OWN decision and isn't something that should be forced on anyone. If people believe in God and follow God's rules, it should be their choice to do so - not something they're coerced into doing. This is why I feel laws should exist to protect individuals from others, as well as protect the environment and such as well - the government should not dictate morality in which people aren't harming others or when two people are consenting with one another to act in a harmful way.

Also see my previous post on why it's stupid to trust the government with your religion. If your religion can only thrive when the government forces it upon citizens, then what does that say about your religion? This is why I find Islam to be pretty pathetic - because it only thrives when it's forced on people. When people are allowed to choose whether or not they want to be Muslim, people either choose a less radical Islamic lifestyle or they leave Islam entirely. If Christianity could only thrive by being forced on people - then it may as well be dead.

If religion has to be forced so it can survive, then there's no reason to believe the religion's god has any power over reality or even exists - unless it's a non-interventionist God in which case why is the religion being forced to begin with?

As I mentioned in another post on the forum, I have a mild addiction to pot. I have been questioning it's value lately.
For one, yes it is physically addictive. The withdrawal effects are very mild but its certainly something your body can crave.
I wouldn't recommend to anyone, but not recommending it is something I feel isn't my duty either. A lot of the time while I am high, I am reading scripture. It does not get in the way of that. It helps with sound sleep and appetite.
However: I do know from personal usage that it can increase sexual urges. It can also make you seem 'out of it' too but to me that is more of being in a mellowed out place and the world is the one racing about. That peaceful relief from the struggles in the world is how I became addicted.
I do believe the increased sexual urge is a concern though. That and being dragged out a lot.
There are a lot of different strains. Some can intensify your perception quite a bit so I understand the mental health concerns. Though with some strains of the stuff, you could say it relieves mental health issues such as chronic depression. It can make life bearable for some. This is why I have continued to use it. To make my life bearable and keep bitterness at bay.

So there are pros and cons. It doesn't have to effect you seeking God because it certainly has not prevented me from reading scripture, praying or repenting and crying to the Lord. Can it bring you to sexual temptation though? Yes.

Oh. I should have mentioned how I felt the Lord felt about me being on it. He seemed a little sad or disappointed because you can lose parts of someone to a substance when others don't do it or are unsure what to think of it. Though I also felt mercy from Him because He could see and understand my sadness and struggle. He did not make it impossible for me to get it. He allowed me to make the choice to use it, with mutual understanding that there is sadness involved with that journey. The Lord knows that I rely on His mercy in my sadness.
He was the one who created this plant and put it here. He knows what it is, what it does and exactly why I have been doing it so I have been making every effort to merely be completely honest and open with Him, without becoming a stumbling block to others in the process.

I almost didn't want to even put this out there, but I don't see the act of smoking weed as a sin in it's self. I agree with Daniel up there though and still very much think it can be abused though. I think it is 100% natural plant, and God told us we could enjoy all the fruit of the earth. You don't have to "make" it, or add chemicals or anything like that, it just grows. In the way I've been lead to look at it now, I feel Romans 14:22-23 covers it as well. If you think it's a sin then it is, but I don't feel it is, so am I just wrong? I also understand that the inhalation of super heated smoke can be considered hurting the temple, but even if that is the case would eating it be better then?

Just to be super clear, this is what "I" feel the Lord has lead me to believe on this subject so far. I am not saying that my view will never change, or that any other Christian should go by what I say (of course), but I do take obedience to God very seriously and didn't just make up my own view without much thinking and prayer and going to scripture. That being said I also agree with everyone above as well. If you feel it's not good for you, then it's not good. It also really helps with the pain in my flail arm now, so I have a mental justification in my head on top of everything else that may be a bias on my part, and I've smoked every day since I was 15, so I am also not trying to pretend that the pain is the ONLY reason I smoke, Honestly I'm sure I'd be smoking anyway. I am curious what other believers will think about my position on this particular matter.

One last thing I'd like to add, the way it effects me now and at the time of my regeneration, is very much different then it did when I started smoking at a young age. My point is back then it did effect me in a much more negative way, I would get tired, lazy, uncaring. So my view is a lot more personal than what most on the outside looking in would see or think, so I'm not saying I feel it's right for everyone out there, just me personally.
The only caveat I would have is where you said 'God gave us all plants to enjoy'. That was said before the Fall and since then he put a curse on the ground and we do have various poisonous plants.
I dated Mary Jane for 7 years and it truly poisoned my thinking at that time, especially with paranoia and a scattered brain where I couldn't hold a conversation for over 30 secs in my everyday life.

I think we could all agree that it's hard enough already to get your order right at the McDonalds without adding this to the mix. What are we going to get now? Half eaten french fries?
