Maybe some of you would be interested to know that on this day in the year 1571, Christians won an important naval victory over the Ottomans in Greece. It was the last major naval battle fought by both sides with man-powered ships. This vicotry was a big deal because up until this time the Ottoman navy was pretty much unstoppable. In fact some people think that if the Ottomans hadn't been checked then they might have gone on to conquer the new world. The Ottoman's had been raping and pillaging Europe for years. In fact lots of the of the oarsmen in the Ottoman ships were Christian slaves that had been captured by the musloids during previous raids.

One interesting thing about the Battle of Lepanto was how Christian from many nations came together and risked their lives to the sake of their Christian brothers and sisters in the besieged colony of Famagusta on the island of Cyprus. The Christians there had surrendered to the invading muslim because the muslims promised that they could leave the island. But instead the islamic Ottomans imprisoned and enslaved the Christians. They even brutally flayed some of them alive. So this was a great example of Christians coming together, fighting evil, and saving their fellow Christians. We owe them a debt of gratitude for their sacrifice.
