3. With their flocks and herds they shall go
to seek the Lord, but they will not find him; He has withdrawn himself from them.
They have dwelt treacherously with the Lord, For they have begotten pagan children. Now a new moon shall devour them and their heritage.

Hosea is the first of the 12 Minor Prophets as listed in our English Bible. Immorality was rampant in the well-northern Kingdom of Israel. Honea’s adulterous wife illustrates the faithless nation.
God is a very merciful God, but, unheeded mercy brings; Judgment!! So when God extends his hands of mercy to us and we don't repent, then we can be sure that something is coming next!
To obey is better that sacrifice and to heed that the fat of rams (1 Samuel 15v22) so when they became evil in God's sight and refused to repent God despises even their burnt offerings and sacrifices and he hides his face from them..v6 says he has withdrawn himself!!"
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit" psalm (51v17)
What God really wanted was for them to obey, love and depend on him!!
it is not that the sacrifices they were commanded in the law to bring did not have any meaning, but rebellion and disobedience can make our sacrifices and offerings abhorred by a God who is no respecter of persons.
Today we thank God for his grace, but are reminded that we should not take his grace for granted for he desires true worship from hearts that are bent on being Holy as he is Holy.
