Lying to protect someone is really not only just lying to them but very condescending to them, you are basically telling yourself that the person is to weak or feeble or stupid to deal with something. And when they find out like this guy apparently did, thats all going to go through their head.

A guy I worked with year several years back always told me when dealing with customers is was best to just tell the truth no matter what it was. In his words "the less you lie the less you have to remember."

Lies build fantasy stories and fantasy stories aren't true and we forget things that aren't true faster then we forget what is true.

Colossians 3:9 - Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices,
Colossians 3:10 - and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
Leviticus 19:12 "Do not swear falsely by my name and so profane the name of your God. I am the Lord."
Proverbs 25:18 - Like a club or a sword or a sharp arrow is the man who gives false testimony against his neighbour.
Proverbs 14:5 - A truthful witness does not deceive, but a false witness pours out lies.
Proverbs 19:5 - A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who pours out lies will not go free.
Proverbs 19:9 - A false witness will not go unpunished, and he who pours out lies will perish.
Proverbs 24:28 - Do not testify against your neighbour without cause, or use your lips to deceive.
Proverbs 12:19 - Truthful lips endure for ever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment.
Revelation 21:8 - But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars-their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulphur. This is the second death.

thank you sooo much im going to look up these scriptures and read them thank you . any advice i can get is good ..

Took to long to edit my last post...

Also , you may want to find yourself an accountability partner. I imagine a lot of people think that would only be necessary for someone who has like alcohol abuse or sexual addiction. But you have stated you have a history of this , so maybe finding someone in your church, like a somewhat older lady to talk to would be a very good idea.

What does the Bible say on the importance of accountability?
“Let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds. Let us not give up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but let us encourage one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching…” (Hebrews 10:24-25).

you know what i love that idea an i know exactly who i could talk to ..at least i think i do .im going to give it a shot .im scared i wont lie ,ha i am .this person is someone thats been there for me an helped me and i felt like a sinking feeling like i killed his heart when he found out . its awful and i may not be able to erase it but i want to do my best to stop this .

i guess it also depends on what you lied about. Not saying any lying is good, but why you were lying will certainly have an affect on the guy

Corrie Ten Boom touches on this subject in her book, "The Hiding Place." This book is her account of her experiences during the holocaust. She was lying to protect people (mostly Jews, but also those who helped Jews hide). Her sister-in-law's household was hiding a blond, blue-eyed Jew, and when the sister-in-law was asked if she was Jewish, she said yes. The Jewish woman was taken to a camp, and Corrie was furious. The sister-in-law said (loosely paraphrased) that because she had honored God's law, He would protect them. The Jewish girl was part of a break-out two months or so later.

Corrie asked her father if she was wrong for lying, and he had a very good answer that I can't remember. But it had to do with God knowing her heart. It's a beautiful story of faith against all odds.
