logic problem

I came accross this little test and I'm curious of how many people solve it and with what method :)

I almost gave up after looking at it for nearly 10 minutes, Those preschoolers beat me by 5 minutes! Once you work it out it stands out. I'll send my answer to you Erika :D
 
Perhaps I am making this complicated, if preschoolers can solve this :P.

It took me just under 5 minutes :). When you said that the kiddies got it in a few minutes, I immediately tried to think like a 5 years old, and I used a method that I suspected they would've used. Without that hint, I'm not sure how long it would've taken; I probably would've over-complicated it :). Hmm, it just occurred to me....I wonder if that's one reason that Jesus mentioned having "faith like a child"; they don't try to over-think things and make them more complicated than they really are. An adult thinks, "Jesus dying for me? Well, I must need to be really good also. He couldn't possibly be willing to just accept me, and I'm sure that there are loopholes here; perhaps we need to follow a bunch of rules also ". A child thinks, "Wow.... He died for me and He's telling me that I can come to Heaven with Him? That's so nice of Him! I'll take that deal!" :).
 
Be_evergreen: gotta think like a child to solve it, just like Jilly81 said :) I like the comparison you drew Jilly, we really over think things at times and the solution is right in front of our eyes. Regarding faith, kids really put us to shame sometimes.

Oh, but I run after butterflies out in public! Apparently that isn't child-like enough, maybe I'm just easily amused :D I'll keep trying.

By the way, my computer programmer brother- this is driving him nuts! He had me send it to him.

OH!!! Took 20 minutes, but I got it! :P

LOL, Jilly, it is quite a funny sight! He finally got it after some hints! His exact words: "YES!!! I got it in 10 minutes- I'M A PRESCHOOLER!!!" (As I told him that it said preschoolers get it in 5-10 min).

You could make a Youtube video, Evergreen....it sounds like he'll still be working on the problem by the time you can make it to his house to record it, hehe :).

Oh, oops. Now it's nearly a half hour later, and I just looked at what you said, Evergreen. I wasn't trying to complain, though I realize that it sounded like I was. I think the whole thing is quite amusing. I'm smiling again now as I think of his frustration.... people without patience are amusing, but he actually solved it pretty fast :).
 
cute makes me want to do an experiment and see if my kids can get it lol :)

3 and 6 years old. then I can give it to my husband (who majored in Math and Physics) and see which one of them figures it out first ;)
 
I'm sure your husband would love the challenge too. "Time to put all of your skills to the test!" :D I bet the youngins will get it straight away!

Maybe it is just because I am old, but this is an old test. So I don't really think it is fair that I got it pretty much immediately :)
 
I'd have taken much longer if I wasn't told it was done by pre-schoolers.
It's best not to even look at the puzzle and think about what type of thinking a baby does all day, what teaching experiences they go through. Then take that thinking to the puzzle.
 
I confess. I looked it up. I almost pulled my hair put, so in order to avoid complete panic, I succumbed to temptation.
