And from a different angle, here is what hinders our prayers to be ineffective...

"- He does not listen when we hold on to or harbor sins in our hearts(Psalm 66:18)
- He does not answer when we ask in doubt(James 1:6-7)
- He answers No when our prayer in not in accordance to His will(2 Cor 12:7-10)
- He answers No when obediance, His grace and His glory are better revealed by going through a trial rather than being rescued from it(Matt 26:39; 2 Cor 12:7-9)
- If we do not keep His commandments(1 John 3:22)
- He will not answer by repeating meaningless requests(Matt 6:7)
- We will not receive if we'd do not ask(James 4:2)
- If we ask with selfish or pleasurable motives(James 4:3)
- Should not expect answered prayers with unconfessed sins in our lives(Psalm 66:18; Isaiah 59:1-2: 1 Pet 3:12)
