Can a once truly saved believer backslide too much and lose the gift of salvation? If so do they need to repent and ask for forgiveness through Christ again? Thoughts are welcome and scripture too!
No, a person can't loose their salvation.
28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.
29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father's hand.
30 I and my Father are one.
John 10:28-30 (KJV)
I heard someone say on the radio the other day that we're "double wrapped"; in Jesus' hand and the Father's hand.

Matthew 7:21-23 (KJV):
"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."

Matthew 10:33 (KJV):
"But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven."

Revelation 3:5 (KJV)
"He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels."

For he says, “At the right time I heard you, and on a day of salvation I helped you.” Listen, now is really the “right time”! Now is the “day of salvation”! 2th Corinthians 6:2

This verse applies to all.

Yes, even those who have once foolishly turned away from the Gospel.

This is the measure of the grace of our Lord. We serve a good God.

therefore, then how to overcome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! for by your words and misuse of scripture no one will be ever saved, not one. That be why God has done it for us in son to us, to save us.
Have you tried to be perfect, can you be perfect? Can anyone?
I guess, no I know, I can't be, have not ever been able, even though would love to be perfect. Yet I see I am perfect, by God , not me, along with all flesh nature first birth of man and woman after the first Adam are first born as dead. I can act as if I can, even though in past I haven't, yet that would be pride, would it not! And to the people, Jesus was speaking of in not getting in, is because their motive is in error, as James speaks of also.

1 John 2:1-12

Authorized (King James) Version

2 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: 2 and he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
3 And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. 4 He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. 6 He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked.
7 Brethren, I write no new commandment unto you, but an old commandment which ye had from the beginning. The old commandment is the word which ye have heard from the beginning. 8 Again, a new commandment I write unto you, which thing is true in him and in you: because the darkness is past, and the true light now shineth. 9 He that saith he is in the light, and hateth his brother, is in darkness even until now. 10 He that loveth his brother abideth in the light, and there is none occasion of stumbling in him. 11 But he that hateth his brother is in darkness, and walketh in darkness, and knoweth not whither he goeth, because that darkness hath blinded his eyes.
12 I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name’s sake.

What are his commandments?

Ephesians 1:4
according as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love:
Ephesians 3:17
that Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love,
Ephesians 3:19
and to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God.
Ephesians 4:2
with all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love;
Ephesians 4:15
but speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:
Ephesians 4:16
from whom the whole body fitly joined together and compacted by that which every joint supplieth, according to the effectual working in the measure of every part, maketh increase of the body unto the edifying of itself in love.

There are many a scripture that point to Love, as there is not one command against God's love is there?

What, be the definition of the Love of God? Charity is love one in the same, that be what the cross for us of Son; is Charity, by his one time death willingly he took on the entire worlds sin for us to appreciate and ask God Father to give us the new life offered in his resurrected Son Jesus.
I, as all others in first birth on earth of man and woman having sex is flesh. And no flesh ever pleased God but Son's flesh. And Son was not full flesh, born of woman, but not man.
It is not for us or anyone else to work to get it done, it is done by Son, Jesus for us to be thankful for this reconciliation (2 Cor 5:17-20) and thus in completed belief be given the new risen Life of Son to lead them in the Holy Spirit of Father and Jesus as Won for us to be in too.

1 Corinthians 13:4-7

Authorized (King James) Version

4 Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, 5 doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; 6 rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; 7 beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.
I fail in those three verses, do you, does anyone ever do those three verses perfect ever or has anyone but Son in the flesh?

That Love above in those verses above, is God's true Love, has been that from day one of the fall of Adam the first. Not in Adam the second.

God took care of the nasty nines and dirty dozen in Son for us on that tree in his willing crucifixion to get that purpose of his done first as he said this in Matthew 5:17. his purpose.

Hebrews 10:10-12

Authorized (King James) Version

10 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.
11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12 but this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;

By Son we are no longer under literal Law, we are now in the Law of Love, that has not one command against Love the Love of God, 1 Cor 13:4-7
yet, this love is in the risen Christ, not the dead one, religion teaches people to be in the dead Christ, and have to do to get. Trying to imitate, which no flesh can (Romans 8:3) read it from Rom 8:1, to see the contrast and the end of Rom 7 where it says, so then, since I can't do it, who can?
Jesus our savior did it, and will do it through you too, if, you will last through all those sins you now hate to do. and are doing. If you not hating them, then you do not believe God and are not saved and are taking God's grace for granted and using it to get stuff for yourself here and now, are you? You know this is between God and you, not me and you.

Yet, I hope you now see, you are not correctly writing the word in true context using verses to get what you say as true. As if God is not faithful (Phil 1:6)
When Paul says nothing, absolutely nothing can separate anyone from God's Love, Charity of Son for them
You can either believe it 100% as true from God to you or you can continue to doubt and be at work trying to get into what God invites you into by belief to it is done for you too. It is finished for you to believe it. (John 19:30). If now you believe God in Son's done work for you too.
Then in prayer, belief to God, tell God this from within you. God loves us all
He went to that cross for us all, to first take away all the nasty nines and dirty dozen of sin, (we all have done) on himself for us to be given new life in his risen Life for us to ask for that in seriousness
It is a willing life exchange, my, yours, and all others also, that. are willing to exchange their first birth of flesh to God's risen Son's life in God's spirit and Truth (John 4:23-24) for them to be new by belief to it as true for you too.
Which, once one does this willingly, between God and them, one begins to learn new in Thanksgiving and praise over it. Amazed as these new immature children, see themselves sin again and see how to let go of it, by their new guide (Holy Spirit of God) and not harm others ever again, can't in the new Spirit given them. If you or any one else can and talks the talk, is not born again as of yet! Understand as well, to have the thought(s) of sin is not the same as doing the sin. It is trying to get you to do it, unto harming others. So, if this be happening or has happened to you too. Stop, sit and be still and wait and you will hear what is best to do, having free will to do as you thought to do, yes you see it is not best and so you don't free do that thought you were having in anger over others and things going on, your new will exercised, able to now say no!
So, go to your own mirror and see yourself and work this out between God and you, thank you

I made a mess, God cleaned it up and said let's go forward and I will show you what happened that brought that poop on. It is like learning how to ride a bike, training wheels on until they get taken off to see if I know how to ride without them

Correct, the one above states "I Never Knew you" to the lost.

Since Christ Has "Always Known those who are His Saved" (2Ti 2:19; Eph 1:4-6 AV),
then it is Very Strange to put forth this modern doctrine of:

'Christ never knew those he has always known' , Confusing new babes, eh?
Amen.

Then they are not really saved are they?

Matthew 7:21-23 (KJV):
"Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity."
He said he never knew them. They did not lose salvation. they never had it
Matthew 10:33 (KJV):
"But whosoever shall deny me before men, him will I also deny before my Father which is in heaven."
Peter denied him three times. Will Jesus deny peter?
Revelation 3:5 (KJV)
"He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels."
How do we overcome?

1 John 5:4
For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has overcome the world—our faith.

Every verse you gave concerns those who

1. Jesus never knew, were never saved
2. Denied God by rejecting the gospel. thus was never saved
3. Was not born of God. so did not overcome. so were never saved.

Yet your claiming they lost salvation??

Commitment involves active faith and obedience. Choosing not to believe in Christ anymore destroys everything in that person's life, including their salvation.
Believing means continued believing, not a one-and-done thing.

While I get what you're saying. I think your view on Gods power is insulting. So YOU could walk away from Him? Sorry bud, God keeps us, He saves us, keeps us, and doesn't make mistakes. What you're saying here strips God's power and hands it directly to the persons ability to "be good enough". God gives us a shot, but it's really up to us to hang in there. This is garbage and not true. You don't get any credit for "being good enough". Believe it or not what you're selling here is a works based salvation and is not the truth. The thing is if God saves you, you WILL be good enough, by His power and His power alone. You put WAY TOO HIGH a value on "man's choice". Yet I'm sure you don't see it. If what you say is true then you aren't saved, your on probation.

If you really think you're being obedient enough, you are directly usurping Gods glory and boasting in your own salvation. God forbid.

Oh yeah, and anyone that thinks a believer can be born again and keep sinning now because they're "all good", again seems they know NOTHING at all about the true power of God.

Just as we chose christ for salvation, we can choose to leave Him.
It's a life of believing faith till the end.
Matt 24:9“Then they will deliver you up to tribulation and put you to death, and you will be hated by all nations for my name’s sake. 10And then many will fall awaya and betray one another and hate one another. 11And many false prophets will arise and lead many astray. 12And because lawlessness will be increased, the love of many will grow cold. 13
But the one who endures(by grace thru faith) to the end will be saved. 14And this gospel of the kingdom will be proclaimed throughout the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come.

A wishy washy faith is no faith at all.

You either beli9eve God in all he said, or you do not believe God

If you believe God. you will recieve his salvation and his gift. and after he makes you alive, and gives you a spirit. you wilol change

If you do not believe, You will not show a changed life will not follow him in works. and may look like you are a christian, but like a dog. you will return to your vomit eventually. showing as John said, you were never of us.

even if we could would we?

How can we say we repented and truly understood our sin and our situation and how we are headed to outer darkness. And say we believe and trust God that based on the cross. he will save us, because we can not save ourself.

and then do another 180 degree, and say we change our mind we no longer believe it, in spite of everything God would have done in and for us?

Sorry I am not buying it

As for matt 24. That is speaking of the last days, and Jesus is warning them who are living in those days to not fear. but endure, whoever endures to the end (at his return) will be saved.

that is not speaking of eternal salvation or the gospel.

Luke has a parable that talks about mixing the Old with the New—
5:36-38 a new garment…new wine: New cloth shrinks when washed and so tears the old; new wine expands with fermentation and breaks brittle old wineskins. In either case, both old and new are ruined. Both illustrations make the point that the old is incompatible with the new. Jesus did not come to patch up the old covenant, but to establish a new one. The Kingdom of God brings a whole new orientation to thinking and living.

Just as we chose christ for salvation, we can choose to leave Him.
Yes, but you can't choose what God decides to do and His promise is to never leave you. So if one believed and then decides this life is too hard? That one comes under discipline and life gets even harder. We need to ask ourselves if we truly believe in the Gospel and/or do we even know what the Gospel is?

Hebrews 13:5
Keep your lives free from the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”

But the one who endures(by grace thru faith) to the end will be saved.
And from whom does grace and faith come? We do not generate grace and faith, it is the gift of God.

Ephesians 2:8
For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God

No-one can become "undone" as a child of God anymore than one can become "undone" as a child of one's parents. Once born of God, always born of God. Therefore as children of God what sort of lives ought we to live? The first thing is to stop thinking reliance on ourselves will maintain our salvation because it is the Lord who keeps us until the day of our evaluation.

Philippians 1:6
being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.

One either believes and is saved, (for this is God's promise) or one does not believe and is not saved.

John 3:16
For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

God keeps His word even if we don't.

I assumed most here were aware of the differences in the OT and the New. If I am incorrect, it would take more time to illustrate the differences than I currently have. I will leave you with a few illustrative verses from Paul;

The Spirit, Not the Letter
4 And we have such trust through Christ toward God. 5 Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, 6 who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.

Glory of the New Covenant
7 But if the ministry of death, written and engraved on stones, was glorious, so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the face of Moses because of the glory of his countenance, which glory was passing away, 8 how will the ministry of the Spirit not be more glorious? 9 For if the ministry of condemnation had glory, the ministry of righteousness exceeds much more in glory. 10 For even what was made glorious had no glory in this respect, because of the glory that excels. 11 For if what is passing away was glorious, what remains is much more glorious.

12 Therefore, since we have such hope, we use great boldness of speech— 13 unlike Moses, who put a veil over his face so that the children of Israel could not look steadily at the end of what was passing away. 14 But their minds were blinded. For until this day the same veil remains unlifted in the reading of the Old Testament, because the veil is taken away in Christ. 15 But even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil lies on their heart. 16 Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. 17 Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.

Thank you for this reminder, about Old and New. Old Flesh can not be patched up, cannot be saved, cannot do Law perfect at all. We see that: in the First Chosen in the First (Old) Testament. Wow!
Thank you, for this reminder, I need Life, new in the risen Christ, after the dead Christ first took away the sin of us all in himself. Therefore, Father not viewing us as sinners any longer as did before this final sacrifice of Son willingly.
Son, came to fulfill the Law and Prophets, that prophesied about him, fulfilled the Law and Prophets and yelled "It it finished" (John 19:30) The Nasty nines and dirty dozen are now dealt with. The born new people in the risen Son are focused on new, not old.
See it, risen Son, will never die ever again, Father is well pleased in his done work for us by Son in our stead. (Hebrews 10:10-12)
To stand in thanksgiving and praise (Psalms 100:4). All sin now removed from Father's sight as far as the east is from the west (Psalms 103:12), ready to give us in belief, the new Heart of Ezekiel 36:26, by belief only
It is finished, he is risen and new life begins in the risen Christ, given to us by Father, the only one that knows the truth, whether or not we are serious in belief and do not want to use it to spend it on our own pleasures. (father gives new life to these sincere ones. These new, do not even think about it. Too busy in Love and mercy given them, giving that out.

Wow, woe is me, Thank you for the inspiration

Luke 8:13
New International Version
Those on the rocky ground are the ones who receive the word with joy when they hear it, but they have no root. They believe for a while, but in the time of testing they fall away.

New Living Translation
The seeds on the rocky soil represent those who hear the message and receive it with joy. But since they don’t have deep roots, they believe for a while, then they fall away when they face temptation.

English Standard Version
