Hi - So sorry for your loss of your previous boyfriend. You can still honor his memory by having a little 'service' for
him at home where you live. If you know approximately the time when the formal service is being held in that other
city then do your service at the same time - you'll be united in prayer that way. But even if you don't know the
exact time, no worries. Just collect up a Bible, a candle, maybe a picture of your old boyfriend or if not picture then
something that he liked or reminds you of him (ie if He liked a certain kind of dog...then put a picture of that on the table
with your Bible and candle.) Start with the Lord's Prayer....light the candle you have...Open your Bible and read a Psalm
or other passages that bring you comfort....(there are some nice remembrance poems at this one website:
Sympathy Poems - Poems about Sympathy ). And chose another reading like a poem if you wish to do that. Then just allow yourself a bit of time to remember your dear friend and send prayers his soul's way. It's okay to cry and
just 'be' there with your grief. And when you go to say good-bye and put the candle out finish with "And as this candle light goes out, carry dear God my love to _____. Jesus be with him and also with me and my family. I give you thanks and praise God, for my having known____(his name). May he be with you in a safe place and in your eternal arms. Amen.
---Or say something like this as you put the candle out. And you know it is fine to leave this little 'shrine' or memorial to your boyfriend for a few days or weeks.....as long as you need....some people also like to have some flowers (maybe you have some fake ones or could collect some flowers from outside in a cup, for a bit of color). None of this has to cost money but it is a way of connecting with remembering your loved one, even though you can't be at the other service far away. May God be with you as your do this and comfort you as you mourn. Peace and Blessings +
