What can I write about love? Having never been in love, both her and I at the same time, I have found that couples being in love have the best relationship, somehow they understand and appreciate the good in each other. And that's when that verse comes into play "Love covers a multitude of sins," and "Love is patient, kind, enduring, long suffering, is not boastful, is humble," and the fruits of love are self evident.
It's like I want to fall in love with a person, what if they are not into you as much as you are into them? What then? But you feel like you know her so well, you love her personality, her laughter rings in your ears and her speech is ever so clear long afterward. You enjoy every aspect of just being able to talk with her. Nothing matters at that point of time. Everything else is moot, nothing is valuable as your time spent with her. Is that true love? Or is that just infatuation? How does one measure true love?
People say true love never exists. Then all those movies made, all the tens of thousands of books, thousands of poems, odes, written encapsulating true love, are they all figments of mere imagination? Has mankind ever experienced true love? The answer is YES. True love is the God kind, the kind that Jesus Christ had for us his Church. He was willing to lay down his life for his bride, the Church.
His own rejected him and yet he did not reject them. He said "Father forgive them for they know not what they do." That is true love, Christ's acceptance of the Church while the bride played harlot, a thing that God despises to the core. Our God is a jealous and exacting God. He will not forgive those who are constantly rebelling against his good nature.
Where am I going with this argument? You may ask. True love exists and it has been revealed by God's sending his only son into this world that whosoever believes in him shall never perish but have everlasting life. (John 3: 16). Our love then must aim to reflect His love, the love he has for us since the beginning of creation. It's exactly why the Spirit of God brooded over the earth, before life was ever created upon planet Earth. God was so deeply in love with his ideas that he was getting ready to birth them through words, "Let there be light." And it was so. And the rest followed in 6 days. On the 7th day God rested. He was delighted in his love creation, what his love created was mankind and everything available to sustain mankind's life here on earth.
And then if you think you love her and she does not, how does that reflect? What about love? Does love exist? You question yourself. What if she says "ewww" and "ughhhh" like you are loathsome, like you are the scum of the earth. Then you realize that something does not fit. Love's not a one way street like some songs proclaim them to be. "Give it time, Love will come around," is that the line of another song? Was the song writer being foolish?
Does love exist? Yes it does. Somewhere in the world, love exists in true hearts that recognize each other, Love does exist. In other lives, humans have to discover love. Love sometimes is a feeling that has to be dug out, mined. And when you reach the end of that dark deep coal mine tunnel suddenly you hit upon that giant piece of hard rock. When you bring it up to the surface, the light shines upon a brilliant, gleaming diamond. Your love has blossomed.
I say to the lucky ones in love, "Drink a toast to those who haven't yet made it through the ocean of love. Wish them a safe and fearless journey through the darkest perils love may have for them and let them emerge triumphant." Love is then a field that has to be tended to and watered everyday.
