Thank you very much.
I miss writing, i need to do it more often.
You should! I enjoy reading these,
thankyou.
Thank you very much.
I miss writing, i need to do it more often.
I close the door to the harshness of the world
its wood strains and struggles against the night
yet, in spite of its moaning, it keeps outside
all the decay and refuse of life
I light a fire in the ancient, knowing hearth
to drive away the ghosts that chill the air,
phantoms of memory and things left unsaid...
specters of worry and care
Night-blooming jasmine is lulling me to rest
even as I sip on cold, dark tea
and break from the bread a light, crusty taste
to silence my hunger's deep plea
my hands are like sandpaper as I wipe away a yawn
and watch my tea glass sweating drops upon the floor
I sink into my arm-chair like a drowning man at sea
and try to forget all I left it for
the noises come and comfort me and carry me away
from the crackle of the fire to the creaking of my bones
to the weeping willow lashing the house
and the front door and its groan
they tell me that my freedom is found
no further than my chair, no more distant than my pipe
there within my wrinkled features
just behind my dimming eyes
I close them now and set my mind adrift to foreign fields
and know they hold no magic, no dreaming unfulfilled
for mystery rests in leather books and shadowplay on walls
and pleasure from my small piano echoing in the halls
Fairly circular and simple, but every so often I spout out a poem. Here's a recent, rough copy of one of mine. "The Midnight Express"
Sour notes are struck
at the strike of midnight's eve;
resonating echoes fade
'til morrow's symphony.
(Battering an urgent
contemplation's need to breath)
Sour notes are struck
at the strike of midnight's eve.
Reason begs to question
personal hypocracy,
Fight or flight is flagged
for foul play's defensive teeth, as
down the hall, an infant's cry
annunciates the heat,
as sour notes are struck
at the strike of midnight's eve
Thank you. I see all of the great poetry already posted here; I'm a novice at best, but I just like writing to get my thoughts out!
Carman has always been one of my favorite poets and song writers,
I grew up listening to him. This song written by Carmen just reminded
me of a friend. These songs are always encouraging.
So I thought I'd put it down here.
"The Destination Is There"
Written by: Carman
"You've felt in your spirit
God's shown you something new
Something that has strengthened you
And only you can do
But as your desire grew
You got a little depressed
'Cause you found no destination
For your dreams to manifest
Chorus:
Your desire is the confirmation the destination is there
God wouldn't put it in your spirit if it wasn't going nowhere
So set your sights on the promises and don't you be scared
For your desire is the confirmation the destination is there
His vision's for a certain hour
I know it won't be late
His promises will strengthen you
If only you will wait
Don't follow someone else's dreams
Keep your own in sight
For the vision that God gives
Will keep you all your life"
Chorus
Very nice! Uplifting and something to meditate on when one is doing time in the gutter, so to speak.
The following came to me when I was reminiscing over my job. -_- (But I am grateful just to have one.)
Rush - The Big Money (Lyrics by Neal Peart)
Big money goes around the world
Big money underground
Big money got a mighty voice
Big money make no sound
Big money pull a million strings
Big money hold the prize
Big money weave a mighty web
Big money draw the flies
Sometimes pushing people around
Sometimes pulling out the rug
Sometimes pushing all the buttons
Sometimes pulling out the plug
It's the power and the glory
It's a war in paradise
It's a Cinderella story
On a tumble of the dice
Big money goes around the world
Big money take a cruise
Big money leave a mighty wake
Big money leave a bruise
Big money make a million dreams
Big money spin big deals
Big money make a mighty head
Big money spin big wheels
Sometimes building ivory towers
Sometimes knocking castles down
Sometimes building you a stairway
Lock you underground
It's that old-time religion
It's the kingdom they would rule
It's the fool on television
Getting paid to play the fool
Big money goes around the world
Big money give and take
Big money done a power of good
Big money make mistakes
Big money got a heavy hand
Big money take control
Big money got a mean streak
Big money got no soul...
