If you don't do what He said then no your faith is not rooted in Him, and He makes this clear many of times in the gospel books of Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. It amazes me that even though our Lord has said many of times over and over again that those who believe in Him will do as He says. Then we see those who call themselves our brothers and sisters in Christ walking contrary to this, and telling others you don't have to obey His teachings. That is completely unbiblical teaching to do that.
Luke 6:46-47
And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say? Whosoever cometh to me, and heareth my sayings, and doeth them
Matthew 28:19-20
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.
Matthew 7:21
Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.
