Maid of honor? Question for the guys

So I was watching a tv program about weddings while talking on the phone with my best friend. I'm single and have no plan of getting married in the near future, but just for fun I asked my best friend this question:

If I ever get married, would you be part of my bridal party? Like I'd want you to be my maid of honor.

Now keep in mind I was very serious about this question expecting my friend to be like, "oh of course I will"- but no, that was not the reply I got. Instead he said:

Are you serious? Would you want me to wear a dress?! I've never even heard of such a thing before!!

Haha. I guess I should clarify that my best friend is a guy. Now of course I wasnt suggesting anything absurd like dress wearing or even flowers. But I think its very reasonable to request my male best friend to be up there with me at the church, in a tux. He says I'm crazy to even ask that.

So I want to know- Did I ask a ridiculous question? And guys, if your best friend was getting married, would you be willing to be the "maid of honor"?
 
Sorry but some of us guys, 'are still a guy'. No maid of honor stuff for us. *loads my shot gun n grunts*
 
I know Im a girl and I shouldnt be putting in my 2c worth....but....
shouldnt you be marrying your best friend? Therefore, shouldnt HE be the groom?

I understand that logic, and it makes sense to me. But I don't know, we're just friends. There has never been anything romantic between us. I mean I know traditionally the maid of honor role is given to a female friend. But I'm closer with him than I am with any of my female friends.
 
Perhaps God will provide a young man who's best friend is a female. Then, you and your fiance can swap; your fiance's friend could be your Maid of Honor, and your best friend could be the Best Man?

I still don't get why you're not at least dating the best friend. What do you mean by "nothing romantic?" What is romantic to you? What are you expecting? Lol not trying to interrogate, just hoping you're not overlooking a potential spouse :)
 
I wouldn't want a guy to be my maid of honour....too weird........
