The top 1% of taxpayers in NYC that he wants to target make an average of $1 million a year, so yes, they have the means. It is almost certain that they already own a second home. It is very easy to live right outside the city and take the train to work. If you raise the taxes on a person making 1 million a year by 2% you are talking about 20k a year. That is a very reasonable motivation to move out. Besides, if you have already felt that the city was getting too dangerous this could be the straw that breaks the camels back.People with the means will move out and those who believe it will be freebie paradise will move in. In Portland they recently (2024) sold skyscraper for 68% less than what it had been bought for a few years earlier. As a result they anticipate that commercial property taxes will decrease by a significant percent, not only for 2025, but they will have to pay refunds for 2024. In the same way if people sell homes and businesses at a discount NYC could see the same massive drop in their tax revenue.
Our home is now worth a few 100 ks more then it was Tuesday. Plus, we have actual wildlife in our neck of the woods instead of the wildlife that will move into NYC.

Sadly "Idiocracy was right". The Joker is probably a better person than most communists. If Mamdani is successful in NYC, or if it is perceived that he is failing as the result of outside interference; it very well could be the foundation for a nation-wide communist movement and subsequent violence with reactionary forces.

I live in Texas also in District 36 and our representative is Brian Babin from Woodville in Tyler County. I think they don't understand just how remote some of Texas actually is and difficult to find jobs at 800 miles north to south and about 775 miles east to west which makes driving in any direction from places like Tyler county a three hour drive one way to find a job paying 20.00 an hour. District 36 Babins district has never once in it's history from it's creation been represented by a Democrat never once. The assumption is that only Democrats are on SNAP but my wife read on Facebook Next-door this morning they said there are 4815 residents of Babins home town Woodville TX. who will not be getting benefits this month. That doesn't include the rest of Tyler county nor the other counties in District 36. This is going to be like pulling his pistol and shooting his own self in the foot and nobody can tell them any different I notice.
