MAN - A TRIUNE BEING
A. Genesis 1:26 “Then God said, ‘Let us make man in our image, according to our likeness.”
B. Genesis 2:7 “Then the Lord formed man of dust from the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being (soul).”
C. James 2:26 “For just as the body without the spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead.”
D. I Thessalonians 5:23 “Now may the God of peace sanctify you entirely; and may your spirit and soul and body be preserved complete, without blame, at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
E. Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart.”
F. I Corinthians 6:17 “But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him.” (The triune man joined by the Holy Spirit in union with his spirit now becomes a quad man!)

I've heard different teachings on this. One says that the soul, spirit and body are three separate entities within each of us, as I believe this person believes. The other is that the term "spirit, soul, and body" , is simply a way to say "your whole being", and is not meant for each part to be considered or taken separately , as this was not a Jewish understanding.

Correct we are 1 being not 3, just as God is 1 being not 3.

three parts but one body. one entire, complete body. It is not as if they are three persons, as we understand God to be.that Implies each part has its own will, which they do not. My soul one day does not decide "i am not going to work today", and leave my body useless. Neither does my spirit decide to not function today, but my body decides to function. They all work as one, at the same time, in unison, and only death and God can separate them.

three parts but one body. one entire, complete body. It is not as if they are three persons, No, we are three PARTS as we understand God to be. That Implies each part has its own will, which they do not. Yet Paul complained about doing things that he didni't want to do (soul-controlled body) and not doing the things he wanted to do. His spirit was not in control, YET he was the most noted follower of Christ!! My soul one day does not decide "i am not going to work today", and leave my body useless. That's debatable…if you're not working at something, you're pretty useless. (OK..I have four boys, I can say this!!) Neither does my spirit decide to not function today, but my body decides to function. The spirit always functions, even beyond death for the spirit does not die. They body cannot function without the spirit, but the spirit CAN function without the body. They all work as one, at the same time, in unison, and only death and God can separate them. No, not always. Explain what part of the soul is functioning when a person is unconscious…under anethstesia (sp) or knocked out? Is the mind evident? No. Is the will evident? No. Are any emotions evident? No.
Hebrews 4:12
For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
Our hearts CAN and DO deceive us, even Believers.f

God is three persons, but we are three parts, I guess.

It surely sounds as if Paul was having a right old struggle, but was he referring to himself? or to his former life before being a christian?
We can take a closer look at what Paul is saying and its context, later.

My soul one day does not decide "i am not going to work today", and leave my body useless. That's debatable…if you're not working at something, you're pretty useless. (OK..I have four boys, I can say this!!)
Well, we can be zombies yes.

Neither does my spirit decide to not function today, but my body decides to function. The spirit always functions, even beyond death for the spirit does not die. They body cannot function without the spirit, but the spirit CAN function without the body.

Vegetative states, coma's, no one really understands what happens. Sure, you can keep a body functioning whilst the person's soul/spirit is gone I guess.

I think the soul is still there and functioning, that's how we dream!

Yes , and God also said we have the mind of Christ, he gives us a new heart, he causes us to walk in his ways, the heart is not always deceitful, the heart is not always wicked. In fact for the Christian, it should not be wicked. When Paul spoke about the flesh, he didnt say, "submit your soul to your spirit", he said "don't you know you have died?", and we are resurrected to new life with Christ. But yes we do have free will, and can make wrong or bad choices, or can obey satan rather than God. But our inward nature in our soul, is basically good because it is a new heart God gave.

Faith is Ur life's work by which U will be judged. The spiritual definition of a body is a group of members (Matthew 5:29,30 - 1 Corinthians 12:12-27). If the body is the dwelling place for the spirit, than the house is the dwelling place for the body (Matthew 12:22-30)! The body of the "believer(s)" in God, must be kept pure, clean, Holy, & in harmony with the self (yourself, myself, himself, herself, themselves, ourselves - ALL THY NEIGHBORS)!!! The process of life was limited by & to our own lack of understanding! Evolution was created before man - Genesis 1:21 - but man was created in the image of The Elohim - Genesis 1:26!!!

spirit is what U are, soul is how U are, & body is where U are!!! The Lord God is with those who believe in (the) sacrifice... those who accept the Messia as the savior of man! - Reality is not what many think it is. Time measures change, & God is unchanging! "Would U like to know more?" - TV voice from Starship Troopers.
