It's a sin to covet, lie, steal, murder, commit adultery....having many wives could lead to all of the previously stated sins... So yes, having many wives is a sin....lol
That's a significantly limited understanding of biblical history that lacks so much. That wasn't the basis of the polygamy as a concept, nor a practice and how it formed to begin with. Additionally it's very convenient to wrap up someone else as having questionable motives when you personally are against a practice for your own reasons. However, whether you like it or not, the reality is there is biblical teaching of polygamy and practice of it to this day throughout various cultures for sound reason.
Failing comprehension is such an ongoing issue in these threads.
You do no such thing. You have supplied no Scriptures to back your stance! You just keep lying to yourself, and then to us, hoping to deceive us.There Is difference between defending the flesh and looking for truth.
And not like you, I do not ask other intentions or their history when they pop up
or reasons for posting. I ANSWER based on biblical proof.
can you not find the liberty of christ when we talk about the law?
Let me ask you, were gentiles under the law?
Our minds might not grasp it, but polygamy was biblically approved and as such common practice in days gone by.

You're talking a different language. Your context seems to imply you want Biblical truth, but when it's presented to you in the light of the reality of life in Jesus Christ, that isn't proof enough. You want law spelled out for you in man's intellectual understanding.
The flesh is not able to receive the truth of God. Law spelled out won't help. The Scribes and Pharisees knew the law backwards and forward and yet had no spiritual insight at all. Jesus said their hearts were completely darkened.
Jesus himself is the law fulfilled. If we aren't submitted to him, obeying laws outwardly is to no avail. You can't make yourself acceptable to God by following laws. For if you fail in one tiny area, you're guilty of all.
It's the spirit of Christ who reveals these things to us and conforms us more & more into his image. He alone makes us holy. Not following laws.
It is with the heart that man believes God, not with intellectual understanding.
I Corinthians 2:14
The natural man does not accept the things from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned.
If you lack wisdom, ask the Lord who is faithful to reveal himself to you by his spirit. And you will know the Truth (Jesus), and the Truth (Jesus) will set you free.
Something is strange. Watcher2013 shows up out of nowhere in almost a year's time to post a controversial question... of which he evidently is already convinced he knows the answer. So it doesn't take a scholar to figure out the op is just to stir up a debate, something we are told in the Word not to do:
Titus 3:9
But avoid foolish questions, and genealogies, and contentions, and strivings about the law; for they are unprofitable and vain.
He also has posted nothing but controversial posts in past times, asking questions to coax members to respond in order that he may contradict them with his own interpretation.
In this instance, we read in I Timothy 3 that in order to hold a leadership or teaching position in the church, a man must be "blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach..."
It's pretty clear, if you want to teach, you should have one spouse. I'm sure the Holy Spirit knows best how we should conduct our lives as witnesses unto the world.
Also, it seems Watcher2013 is looking for loopholes to justify having more than one wife. I see in his profile he is married. Perhaps he should ask his wife what she thinks about it.![]()
Nah. Just insane. lolMaybe we should explore is it a sin to have many husbands?
Never mind my first post. wrong topic. Heres 2 verses on Polygamy 1 Cor 7and 1 Timothy 3:2
A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife, vigilant, sober, of good behaviour, given to hospitality, apt to teach;
Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.
Clarification:*[[2Sa 12:7-9/KJV]]* %v 7% And Nathan said to David, Thou art the man. Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, I anointed thee king over Israel, and I delivered thee out of the hand of Saul; %v 8% And I gave thee thy master's house, and thy master's wives into thy bosom, and gave thee the house of Israel and of Judah; and if that had been too little, I would moreover have given unto thee such and such things. %v 9% Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.
magenta, I asked you who gave david wives based on these verses?

I've never heard of a polygamist who didn't take care of all of his wives and his kids well. In OT days, each wife got her own tent and servants, and was given enough provisions to raise her children well. The man still provides, he just has a lot more to provide for.True lol!Guys don't have to do anything except give the seed, women have to lug it around for months and months....plus deliver it.....props/respect to women!
I think the term for one wife having many husbands is polyandry.....rare but probably is happening somewhere on this planet.... lol...
Actually there are more females, because the polygamist men are married to multiple polygamist women.
Seriously though, women with multiple husbands is really nothing new. There are countries where that has always been acceptable in their society. As the Bible says, "There is nothing new under the sun."
And the ungodly will continue to promote and justify whatever their flesh desires.![]()
