This evening as I was doing my laundry a very interesting thought came to me, and then a Bible verse.
I had been reading a series of posts on the Sabbath, and something hit me. The debate over the Law of God to many people is not necessarily whether we should keep it or not, but rather why we keep it. I think that in any Christian's mind there is always a desire to want to love God.
So how does the Law relate to all of this? The answer to this question actually has to do with marriage. When we choose to commit our lives to someone in a covenant we agree to stay with them. When I think about my relationship with my wife, I look for ways to make our marriage better. I have a high regard for her feelings and needs. In the same sense she has those feelings for mine.
The Law of God is the same way. The Law expresses God's keys to having a good relationship with Him. Ten different principles to guide our lives by.
So I keep the Law perfectly? No. Does this mean then that I stop striving to keep the law? Do I stop doing those things that will help me grow closer to God? No, no more than I would try to stop doing things to show my wife I love her.
Just because our best love is broken and God's is perfect does not in any way negate the need to offer that broken love to Him.
So as Paul says "Do we then make void the Law through Faith? God forbid. Yea we establish the Law."
