Hello everyone. Im new here at cc. Still learning the ropes. I am in need of prayer. And any scripture suggestion, encouragement and advice would be appreciated. I want to share whats been going on. I apologize for the length.

I figured out on my own about 6 months ago that my husband has Ptsd. He was in the Army and served in the first gulf war, what is called dessert storm. When I told him I figured out he has Ptsd, he made it sound like its no big deal and he can control it. He has been more stressed and angrier and more withdrawn since right before our son left for the army in January. And it just kept getting worse as the months went on. He was spending more time on his phone than with me and our other 2 kids. I kept trying to talk to him and find out what was wrong. I told him I was concerned about us and our family. He kept saying everything is fine and just stressed from work. And dont worry baby, we will get through it. I still wasnt smart enough to see it was Ptsd.

We have had some trust issues in the past because of deciet on his part and over him viewing porn. So of course as he has been on his phone more, the wheels in my head are turning thinking he is up to his old ways again or worse. So on Oct 14, I decided to talk to him. I told him I was concerned that he is spending more time on his phone than with me and our other 2 kids. I asked him if he was looking at porn again or worse, connecting with someone else. That made him angry. He said he has been staying away from that road. I told him I was afraid if we didnt work on connecting and work on our marriage more that we will be like 2 ships passing in the night or like roomates. That made him angrier and he said maybe he didnt want to. He told me Im a burden ( I have 3 herniated discs and some other back issues and cannot work and cannot do things as often as I used to) and he said that because I cant give him sex when he wants that he isnt sure he can connect with me or if he wants to stay married.

It felt like a punch in the gut. I was thinking who is this man because this is not my husband. After going around with him about when did he start feeling this way and asking him since when is marriage about sex only, it hit me like a smack in the face. I said to him, this isnt about our marriage or family, this is the Ptsd. When I said that he blew up. I have never seen him so mad. He told me that I need to trust him that we are better off without him. I told him we can get through this and he can get help, we can get help. He said no because they will take his guns away. I said your guns are more important than your family? About a week after that I convinced him to go to therapy. But what concerned me is when I asked him to go for himself and for our family he said no. But when I told him if he dont get help, it will effect every part of his life and every relationship he has, the agreed to go. Am I just reading into it?

Since all this went down, there have been more trust issues because of him being strange and secretive about his phone. He refuses marriage therapy and family therapy. He wont even let me meet his therapist. I have researched so much on Ptsd, I feel like I could teach a class on it.He wont try to work on our relationship/ marriage. He says he needs to "figure things out". He wont beileve what I tell him about what I have learned about Ptsd and how Ptsd effects him. And from what I have read, some of this is normal behavior for someone with Ptsd. But most people want to heal to be a dad/husband. He wont let me help him. This has effected our youngest to the point that she has been suicidal and cutting herself. She has to see a therapist now.

He expects us to just wait around while he decides our familys future on his own. And he treats me like a door mat. I forgive him and I love him but I dont think God wants our husbands to treat us like door mats. And I dont beileve in divorce and I thought he didnt this time either. I know the kind of wife god expects me to be but how do you be a wife to someone who has shut you out and acts like he dont want you to be his wife? Am I being selfish because thats the last thing I want to be. I feel like Im going crazy. Sorry such a long post. Any encouragement, prayers, scripture suggestuons, advice would be appreciated. God bless!

The Lord speaking on how husbands should treat their wives:

Ephesians 5:25
Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her,

1 Peter 3:7
Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.

Colossians 3:19
Husbands, love your wives and do not be harsh with them.

The Lord speaking about love:
Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; it does not rejoice at wrongdoing, but rejoices with the truth. Love bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things.

That sounds like a difficult situation. I will pray for you.
I don't know much about PTSD, but maybe you can offer to pray with him. In the most difficult situations, it never hurts to pray as a family.
Maybe he is annoyed because he thinks you don't trust him. Keep reminding him how much you love him.
You're doing great, and you're not being selfish.
Just continue to pray and ask for the answer. Know that Jesus is always with you. The Lord is longsuffering.

Thank you PrynceNY for the bible verses. Thank you Kayleigh for praying and encouragement. The reason I struggle with trust now is for many reasons. He has kept things from me. Hes been lying to me. He was being secretive with his phone and hiding from me who he was talking to. He kept from me that he has been feeling like he dont want to be married for many months now.

The hardest part is I trusted fully that he takes his vows seriously and beileves in marriage and no matter what it takes, we work through things. And he lead me to beileve everything is fine then 1 night boom he dumps all that on me. Plus im worried he is making plans to exit and will do so with no warning. I cant work and we have 1 child that is still dependent on us. She is 16. Our other child still at home is an adult. He has changed his reasons for not knowing if he wants to be married for the rest of his life so many times. I told him, if I dont know if something is broken, how do I fix it? Especially when I kept asking whats wrong and he kept saying we will work through it baby dont worry up until the night he dumped everything on me.

I dont know what to beileve anymore. I do know no one wants to not trust their spouse. It s a horrible feeling. I told him I want to beileve him with everything I am but when he keeps lying to me and hiding things from me its hard to beileve anything he says. Its all such a shock. This is not my husband. And from what I have learned about Ptsd, people do walk out on their families. Some days feel hopeless and I just want to give up. And other days I want to fight with everything I am. It takes 2 people to make a marriage work. And some days I feel like our marriage is destroyed. But I keep praying and asking God to direct my path. I keep praying for my husband too.

Do you love your husband or your marriage more?

Would you be willing to allow your marriage to be destroyed if that meant your husband was healed?

Will keep you in prayer.

I'm sorry you are in a marriage crisis now. You didn't mention a church you belong to which could help immensely and a pastor could counsel you. Of course he would be suspicious being on the phone so much having been addicted to porn. Now the dysfunction is disturbing your daughter. Please pray as a family as much as you can, even if your husband is silent. The Holy Spirit is the one to break through as Jesus heals all of you. I find Streams in the Desert a good devotional when I'm in the "wilderness". I advise you to soak in some scriptures that tell you who you are in Christ as His beloved daughter for instance Hosea 2:19. Ephesians 3:17-19 is a prayer. One from Songs 2:4 is a lovely song. Meditate on Jesus' names like Emmanuel, God with us. Let Him minister to you in the secret place. I will be praying for you and your family. AmmaBev

Ariel 82, thank you for keeping us in prayer. And those are good questions. I love my husband more than anything on earth and would give my life if it would heal my husband. I would give anything and go down whatever path god directs me for my husband to be healed. It hurts so much to see him struggle with this terrible condition called Ptsd. I have tried everything to help him in everyway I can and mostly, he shuts me out. He dumped everything I mentioned on us all at once. And so much more since then. Like I said, I know what kind of wife Gods word says I should be and I try to be that kind of wife and continue to tell/show him I love, respect, cherish him etc. But he seems to not want that but I continue to love him, pray for him, keep in gods word etc and keep encouraging him to do the same. And I continue to pray that god helps me trust my husband completely again.

I just struggle some days and want to give up. I question myself by asking how do I be a wife to someone who dont seem to want a wife. Then I feel guilty and think Im being selfish. And how its affecting our youngest is so hard to endure some days. Then other days I feel so strong and confident that I am doing all I can. So just was looking for some direction and prayer. Again I appreciate you keeping us in prayer. God bless!

Thank you so much AmmaBev for the direction, bible verses and praying for our family. We dont belong to a specific church but there is 1 not far from us that I want to attend regularly. I want to start going this Sunday. I pray that my husband will come to. If not right away, hopefully eventually.

He is a good man. I know his heart and thats why him dumping all that on us was such a shock. And it hurts to see the torment he goes through with the Ptsd. I would trade with him or go through it for him in a heartbeat if I could. I have faith god will heal him. I know that I need patience too. I know gods timing is perfect. Thank you so much for everything again. God bless!

What kept coming to me as I read thru the posts, was, Let go & Let God!! That may sound like a very simplistic answer, but truly if we can follow it, God can work miracles for us.

Is he faithful ~ let go and let God!!
Will he leave us on our own ~ let go and let God!!
Does he still want to be married? let go & let God!!

As long as the issue of sin in marriage is social and not spiritual, it will never be dealt with in any ultimate sense. Every attempt to address this evil leads to frustration that increases. Only the Cross of Christ deals with sin and guarantees victory over the world, the flesh, and the devil. We are fighting a spiritual battle what you can not see, but the effects of it you can see. We have entered a time when level one problems will not be able to be solve with level one thinking. The only answer to sin, deliverance, problems, and solutions, is Faith exclusively in Jesus Christ and the Cross. If you are living any other way you will not have Sanctifying Peace. This is called Spiritual Adultery. This is the only way to solve this chaos, get answers, and for the Lord to rebuke the devourer. This is victory over the world, the flesh, and the devil.

God will on purpose continue to make the wisdom of the world look foolish if you try any other solution.
