What is a Biblical marriage like? What is required? How is it celebrated, before & after?

I'm interested in what the Bible says IS a marriage & what it shouldn't be. In the ceremony I mean not the relationship. The relationship I know is described everywhere in the Bible :)

it is all in thier look 4 it the ceremony ,all taken from scripture the christian and jewish 1 is.
 
I don't think there are many descriptions of the ceremony, (or at least they don't go in detail) all I know is there is a lot of food and wine involved.
 
:) I think this is the first marriage ceremony:


Genesis 2: 22 Then the Lord God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man.
23 The man said,
“This is now bone of my bones
and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called ‘woman,’
for she was taken out of man. ”

24 That is why a man leaves his father and mother and is united to his wife, and they become one flesh.


I would like mine to be modeled after this one, without that whole rib thing, of course. :)

Oh..and with plenty of CAKE!!!!

As a minister, all I can say is, a big wedding is very foolish and unnecessary. It lasts for one day. I like to see more planning of the marriage rather the planning of a wedding. The money spend on a wedding could be used for many things to help the newly weds get started. Cheers

Two things. First, you are obviously a guy. Second I mostly agree with you. The way I see it is why not celebrate a beautiful ordinance given to us by GOD? You don't have to spend millions but why not celebrate a union that is meant to last till "forever".
 
Extravagnt weddings are less than thrilling personally, extravagant receptions is where the fun is to be had

A party for family and friends where Jesus is present to turn water into wine (or for whatever other blessing one may need). What it shouldn't be...a display vanity.

I couldn't agree with you more! Its refreshing to know that I'm not the only one who feels that way.
 
My grandparents were married in there parent's living room. I dined where they said their vows almost every Thanksgiving. To be honest, I think that is good enough, but then my tastes tend toward the simple end of the spectrum.
