That wasn't JUST cliche, but also was VERY judgmental and needlessly insensitive of you to say. Perhaps looking for a different way to show God's love would be a better option.

I am very aware. I only spoke up because i know exactly where you are coming from. However i do not share the same views as you do on these issues.

Directing this next comment at EVERY HUMAN BEING:
It is important for us all to recognize violence as what it is, not by what package it is delivered in, and to recognize that, choosing not to get involved is a much a choice as any other choice.

My Nephew had a girlfriend in high school that would hit him when she got made. One time he pushed her off of him and her Mother called my Sister in law about it. Some of his friends and his brother had witnessed her hitting him. It was quite a shock to them that this girl would actually be the one hitting.

My Brother and his wife didn't like what happened but they understood why he pushed her off of him. They encouraged him many times to break up with her. He did and she and a bunch of her friends came to his graduation party uninvited. I hope this now young woman has gotten some help for her behavior.
 
I have had a very strong man use his strength against me. He tried to strangle me, and he picked me up and smashed my head into a wall.

I don't associate his behavior with men, though. He didn't do it because he was a man. He did it because he had serious issues. I still pray for him and I long for his heart to be consumed by Christ, because THAT would be an incredible turn-around story!

I know too many godly men for his behavior to taint my view of men. Besides, evil can and does reign in the hearts of both men and women. That said, I believe the physical strength of men is one of the reasons why men are commanded to treat their wives with gentleness.

Not sure where I was going with that post. Also, please don't misunderstand. I am not accusing anyone here of being a man-hater.

And Misty, I'm sorry to read about what happened to you. *hugs*
 
This morning I was thinking that I was going to stay out of this thread entirely, but I think some of the discussions that have gone on have really helped clarify something.

I don't think confronting someone about a joke or a sarcastic comment will bring about a change. I haven't seen evidence of this and the video certainly doesn't present it. If the person truly believes that rape is acceptable, they will continue to. Beyond that, I wonder how many rapists are some how intoxicated when they do. So, even more so, what affect will having confronted them about a sarcastic comment bring? For a while, as a christian I did confront people about jokes they would make. In the end, they either didn't really mean what they said, and most people involved in the conversation knew it, or they meant it and being confronted about it wouldn't change their opinion.

The video had a good message: Don't support Rape, nobody is disagreeing with this.
The video presents what seems to me to be an ineffective solution and which others seem to think is wrong for a variety of other reasons.

So what is the true intent of the video? Is it solely the good message, or is it largely the solution? Depending on which one seems to be the intent, people will respond differently.

In August 2011 I (victim) was robbed at knifepoint by a person who just happened to be a black male (perpetrator) in a neighborhood with a predominantly black racial demographic (bystanders).

I'm not black, so is it appropriate for me to post videos telling black people to stop committing crimes? (racist)

Is it appropriate for me to post videos telling black people how to treat other black people under the name of "fighting evil"? (racist)

Should I, perhaps, Google some crime statistics to "support" my cause? (racist)


Honestly, I'm terrified what Jesus Christ would think of me if I did anything like and of those ideas.

Since being black is 100% dependent on DNA and being male is 100% based on DNA I return to my original problem: I'm still trying to understand the point of this thread.

 
There is no point to this thread. Its just another "MAN UP" video designed to tell good innocent men to drop their stuff and go support women because their women.

Its inherently sexist.
 
This is deeper than rape is wrong. This is about all of us learning to treat each other with respect, the root of problems like abuse and rape. Most of the conversation about rape prevention has been addressed to women. The video is one man encouraging other men to be agents for positive change regarding this issue.

It doesn't claim to be the only solution.
It doesn't claim to address all factors.
It doesn't claim that men are never victims.

This is only one facet of a big problem. You can either agree or choose to remain uninvolved.
 
And don't think that the few of otherposting on this thread is indicative that we stand alone. Most cannot speak publicly about their journeys, but communicate through pm's and rep points. There are so many whose voices have been silenced. Some will never utter the unspeakable things they lived through.

I'm not asking you for much. Just to speak up for those who can't. (Prov. 31:8-9).

The poet in the OP video is Canadian (Bio and Reviews | Mare Pacificum) so perhaps the target audience is other Canadian men?

I guess we must have understood the video differently, the basis of the video seemed pretty clearly to be that [all] men are part of the problem and if you don't do X like the video says, then you will continue to be. There is no evidence of that, or that doing X will make anything better. :/

Also, it seems that where you grew up must be vastly different than where I did. Here, men were more often than women the center of the conversation about rape. Maybe it was not the same 60 years ago, but in the world I live in today, it is quite the opposite. In some ways this is encouraging, but at the same time rape is still so prevalent even after the conversation has been changed on a societal level.

Thanks for posting, it was an interesting video; in the end I think it was more dramatics than truly compelling though.

My issues have yet to be addressed.

I want to understand why the 23rd chromosome of human DNA is important in terms of social responsibility but other chromosomes in the human DNA are not.

Who is the geneticist or geneticists that decided that decided this?

Where can I read their curricula vitarum?
