Religious and Spiritual Factors in Depression: Review and Integration of the Research
The majority of studies (61%) find less depression or faster recovery from depression for those who are more R/S or a better response to an R/S intervention compared to other treatments or controls. Even a higher percentage of studies (75%) find inverse relationships between R/S and suicide attitudes, attempts, and completed suicide, and <3% find the opposite. Why is this so? We already discussed the possibility that R/S involvement may help persons to cope better. This has been reported in hundreds of both quantitative and qualitative studies where individuals enduring stressful life circumstances are asked what enables them to cope with the stress.

There is a connection when people at least respond to the knowledge of God and or practice the act of worship. This may not secure salvation to just respond or worship anything outside oneself or a higher being. Still, by responding to the urge to acknowledge a supreme being who created us with the desire to worship, we get a glimpse of healthier living.
For a complete picture of this and not just a glimpse, we see this healing through Jesus Christ. We see salvation and freedom from all other systems that demand legalism as advertised for redemption—a burden with such weight that no one can bear. We know a peace beyond understanding that comes from living in harmony with the Spirit and wisdom of God.
