So back in high school i kinda cheated on him and kissed another guy so he broke up with me and started dating another girl like two weeks later. so i basically cheated on him before he could get around to cheating on me. and fights and backstabbing went rapid for a while.

BUT 4 years later and we still have the same friends but don't talk to each other. i'd been avoiding seeing them for the past two years and i finally saw them again yesterday. . . . .i know from he said she said that they're doing worse off then me . . . . . . . . . .should a feel happy about that. . . .i mean i know i'm supposed to love them as i love myself and stuff but God also said revenge is his. . . .so when he exacts his revenge can i be happy about it?

yeah. i totally admit that i messed up. . . . . .i was REALLY bad back then. . . .. . but its been years and i've forgiven them so i'm ok. . . i'd actually like to be friends with them so it wouldn't be awkward and gatherings but from what i've heard they still don't like me.. . . . . . . . . . . .

So if there's any revenge exacted, it would seem the rain would fall on both? (except maybe because of Grace)

I can't think of anything wrong about being glad that God is Just. (except if it leads to feelings of malice, revenge, hatred, etc)

so. . . . .its wrong to be happy? . . . . . .i should suppress it?

But YOU cheated, not him... in the end YOU were the one who made the mistake... He's only your enemy because YOU screwed up, not him. You have no right to be happy if God does anything to him. Take it from someone who's cheated as well. The fault is on YOU not him. The best thing you can do is get out of each other's lives and move on with life.

I'm not sure exactly how to start my response here. I guess I'll start by supporting Vikki's previous post. The truth is that no one will ever know if he would have cheated or not; you did "cheat". God's vengeance is righteous. I won't dare decide for him who should or should not be on the receiving end of his vengeance, but from the window you provided into the situation, it doesn't seem like your ex would be on God's short-list.

As for God's vengeance, I haven't often seen it played out on earth since Christ. Often those that suffer most(biblically) were those that were the most righteous men. Earthly suffering has a much different source. Remember, Satan has power on earth. With that in mind, perhaps the biggest question to ask is "What makes you think this is God's vengeance?" Would you be happy if Satan was destroying your life? Would you be happy if satan was making your best friends' life tough?

So now I guess I finally get to what is left of your question. "Is it ok to be happy about another person's suffering" To which I would say absolutely not. As an imperfect human, perhaps this is only something to aspire to, but those feelings should never have to be suppressed. If you are truly loving, those feelings should never arise to begin with.

Hope that these words didn't come across too harsh. It's a difficult subject to convey through text.

Theres YEARS worth of drama to it. yes i started it but TRUST me they finished it. very traumatic experience for me. so its not just as simple as i did the cheating cause there was all kinds of stuff going on. BUT

lightning i see what you're saying and I think you're right. If I'm loving my enemies then i shouldn't feel happy for their misfortune. (trust the holy spirit inside!!!)

No matter what 'drama' was going on before you cheated, bottom line is you cheated. Essentially what you're saying is he deserved to be cheated on because of whatever details you left out. Guess what, not true. The right thing to do is to end a relationship. That's really just blame shifting. I agree with the idea that just get over it, move on and leave these people out of your lives. If you bump into them, be friendly, but keep it short.
