well firstly he's not my brother, you think just because he stands up in a pulpit he's saved, I'd bet he's been living an alternative lifestyle for years. He's sinned against the very name of God, publicly, he should be very afraid actually, he sounds very much like the person who God says "begone from me I never knew you" even though they preached in his name

There's too many wolves in the congregation that aren't cast out, they use to stone false prophets, he should be thankful he wasn't living in previous times.

You act like forgiveness means no consequences, like maybe they should just let him back in the pulpit next week and act like nothings happened, ridiculous.
I'm old enough to speak for myself dont spoon feed me. I said there is a better way and you are not exhibiting Godly traits is that clear enough. I don't know about his lifestyle you seem to know. Did you, have you went to him with your concerns? All I'm saying is follow the guidlines of how Christ did it you'll be, I'll be safe. Did you see how i put myself in the equation. And if he is not your brother youre missing the point.

You avoided the question of what if Jesus took your strong but wrong position where we are concerned. Just think about what I'm saying before you get all defensive. I'm suggesting that there is a better way to say all we say about fellow servants if we call them brothers or not.

did jesus get all chummy with the pharisee's and joke at their sins or call them sons of satan. If you are in a teaching position of a church you are in effect representing God to the non-christians, as I said this the the first time I have heard of this guy and so will possibly millions of non-christians who read this story. This guy has represented Christ as a hypocrite, how many homeless shelters means nothing to the non-believer or to God if you live a double life.

i'm defensive because this story makes me angry, hypocrite pastors I have no tolerance for. You think God isn't angry with this man, I won't accept someone telling me I am not christ like to have righteous anger against this man, even jesus whipped out the people selling in the temple.

This whole chill attitude to sin by christians annoys me, like we should forgive and forget as meaninglessly as when someone bumps into you and says they're sorry and you accept it and move on. In most of these pastor scandal cases that go public it only happens because one of the people involved speaks out about it, that doesn't sounds like a regretful person.

Jesus said it best..

Let those without sin cast the first stone.

Just a fyi...christian sin and because they do, that does not make them a hypocrite.

It makes them human, in need of Christ just like everyone else.

Let's see how any of us would act if women threw themselves at you 24/7. Might be a different story.

I did not read the article, does it say what he did?

Matthew 18:21-22 Then came Peter to him, and said, Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times? Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, Until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven.

He apparently asked for forgiveness and is submitting to church discipline. What more do you want? A crucifixion?
Perhaps there needs to be some log removal in your own eyes?

That is why the prophets were at such a high standard and past the most extreme of tests. Joseph had his master wife chase him 24/7.

All of the holy heroes in the bible fell, had shortcomings and royally messed up.

Did God give up on them?

Jesus ate with sinners and talked to the samaritan woman.

Kinda thought this was the gospel of reconciliation not the gospel of condemnation and exclusion.

If Bob Coy repents, he should have fellowship there. As far as being pastor again, that's between him, God and his congregation.

Chill attitude to sin are you serious! No one is Chill to sin that is a foolish statement.
The point being you have the same obgligation you say this hypocrite pastor has. Are ye not called to be a minister of reconciliation. The word is clear be angry I'm cool with that but sin not. That means with your thoughts your attitude your words don't sin. Do you know the scripture that says let not your good be evil spoken of? Thats all I'm saying.
Good be angry I'm angry at satan for pulling down another brother but my focus is on restoring him as much as I can to be useful in the kingdom again. You refered to what Jesus did in the temple perhaps you might re evaulaute your position because from my seat you aint acting like Jesus hypocrites can change you know didnt you change? I know I did.Just some thoughts

Yeah well on the pastor thing God already gave His word on the subject.

Repentance and forgiveness are available to him but the pastorate is no longer a consideration. He disqualified himself and cannot expect Gods ordination. The mantel has passed to another. Not to mention what his wife and family have sustained in the way of injury. The consequences of sin are considerable, loss of rewards.

LOL!

See Matt 18v20, Luke 24v49, Acts 1v13,14, 4v23-31...and so forth!

Matt ch 18:20 does not say to pray together, neither does the Luke verse.

Jesus does not contradict himself in the gospels. Acts is an allegory, if you think it is literal, how about this:

"Brothers I am a Pharisee, a son of Pharisees." Acts 23:6 If he was telling the truth, it makes it an odd statement, as it happened like 14 years after the Damascus light experience. If he was lying to save his life, that is even worse.

i liked what you pointed out about Matt. 18:20 and Luke 24:29 -- they certainly don't in any way say "pray together" -- and furthermore in Acts, they "prayed with one accord" - meaning they were all praying for the same thing, in the same way, not necessarily aloud and together.
Jesus was pretty clear when He taught us how to pray - and he did indeed say to go hide yourself in a closet, rather than to stand up in the middle of a crowd with a great show of flowery, pious platitudes. examples like those given in Acts are all that keeps me from being against public prayer altogether - but i'm not against praying together or aloud, just very wary of it.

but Acts is not an allegory. it's a true record of events. Paul was indeed a pharisee - he graduated cum laude from the pharisee school. there is no "lie" or contradiction there.

i dunno what any of this has to do with the pastor in Fla stepping down - my guess is absolutely nothing lol.

but we don't follow a pastor, we follow Christ!! so what reason do we have to be discouraged? we're sad when a brother falls, but this doesn't damage our hope.

I assume that Billy Graham's wife was the exception to this rule of his? Otherwise, that would make for a very awkward marriage.

LOL Tintin, you do come up with some good "slants" on subjects! :D

The fact that this is described as a MEGA church should have NOTHING to do with the story. Pastors of churches of all sizes stumble and fall. It is sad that some take glee in seeing a person who leads a large church fall. :(

Yes, I know - the higher you go, the further you have to fall.

AND - one poster alluded to the fact that the pastor's irritating squeaky voice somehow indicated that he was to make a big personal, yet public mistake. The logic connecting an irritating voice to a pastor's mistake is faulty.

Ignorant is more like it...

Seems a shame that a guy like this who obviously has skills, needs to step aside. But we don't know the nature of the sin.

Struggling with sin and overcoming it can make you a stronger Pastor imho.

So I hope it deals with it, with whatever he has done, and is able to contribute positively in future.

Dosn't matter what he did, what matters is he took the correct action. As leader of his church he has a higher responsibility and moral obligation than rest of us, not for getting Duty of Care

It is no different from any other job holding positions of leadership an responsibility. A teacher caught having an affiar with a student will be suspended instantly and loose thier job, even if that "student" is above legal consent, as teachers have a care of duty.

Over in UK we continually see politicians at all levels being caught out breaking local council and Palimentary rules, although not criminal offences they are still breaking laws and are suspended while an inquiry is held. Many once caught will rather resign than face questioning.

There have been numerous cases where people in charge of companies or high profile jobs have been caught doing all manner of things, taking drugs and having affiars, which has resulted in their suspension or sacking.

Then of course we get to normal employees, turn up stinking of booze and depending on the job result will be sent home, too many times and company has a right to suspend that person, I do not think I have to spell everything out as to what goes on regarding work, people should get the idea now.

Therefore pastor has done the correct thing and is carrying out correct actions, far better to report himself rather than carry on hiding what he did hoping it is not exposed.

He had a lot of skills with sin. He had spent a lot of time in Las Vegas before being a church "leader"

Since his voice hurt my ears, I am surprised that anyone else would want to listen to him. Pretty simple.

I suspect that he got ratted out, someone told on him. He didn't voluntarily resign, IMO.
