For a long time, I thought I had you defeated.
But only to find that it was I who was conceited.
Thinking I had accomplished maintaining peace.
My sanity began to cease.
Stuck in a spiral, as I try to fight it with denial.
I discovered it was all a facade, a self-made prison of security.
An effort of conformity,
I became my own fatality.
Prayers were answered in many ways, but I was still left with my own fragility.
Your words fell silent or more like distant.
The pit of despair almost consuming me, and the darkness began polluting all that surrounded me.
Your hand reached out, snatching me from the void with such intensity I was left with uncertainty.
How to process, to prepare, to trust my mentality. I can't help but feel my insecurities.
Lord help me as it is more evident than ever that your strength is all that can free me.

I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.

Hey, RoughSoul.

I am sorry to hear about your ongoing struggles, and now I am wondering if that is not reflected in your username. Whatever the case may be, there is hope...literally. In other words, as I assume you already know, when it comes to our spiritual armor, that which is designed to protect our minds is the helmet of salvation (Eph. 6:17) or, more specifically and relevantly, a helmet, the hope of salvation (1 Thess. 5:8). In fact, during his incarnation, Jesus required this same exact helmet of salvation (Isa. 59:17) in order to endure.

Years ago, when going through some major mental struggles of my own, I heard this teaching series on Hope, and it tremendously helped me. Based upon your studying/teaching style which you described on one of your other threads, I believe that this man's teaching style will be a perfect match for you. Here is a link to the 10 part teaching.

Each teaching is only about 10 or 11 minutes long. Originally, these messages were a part of a two week radio teaching on this topic. If you listen to it, then I believe that it will be of help to you.

Beyond that, if you ever want to talk about who we truly are in Christ, then I would be happy to have that conversation with you as well. This topic, in my estimation, is one of the most overlooked topics in all of scripture, and I believe that a lot of people are suffering as a direct result of it.

Anyhow, there definitely is total liberty available for you in Christ, so be encouraged. I will be praying for you as well.

Rough soul is defined as I can be stubborn but also struggle a great deal mentally but also in a spiritual battle to always fight between joy versus decay.

Thank you for the media link. And the problem currently I believe is I understand the who we are but it is as if the heart is disconnected from the brain.

Rough soul is defined as I can be stubborn but also struggle a great deal mentally but also in a spiritual battle to always fight between joy versus decay.
Although my desired focus in not upon the stubborn part, I will remind you of something which I trust you already know.

1Sa 15:23
For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.

Nothing good comes out of stubbornness. Steadfastness in the Lord? Sure, but stubbornness, no.

The fight which you described truly is a fight, and that is why we need the helmet of salvation (Eph. 6:17) to protect our minds or our souls, or that is why we need what Paul called elsewhere a helmet, the hope of salvation.

1Th 5:8
But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.

In other words, hope is that which is designed by God to protect our minds or souls. I made post a while back about the difference between happiness and joy, and I am going to quote it here for your consideration and, hopefully, for your help.

You have asked some great questions here, and I think that in order to properly answer them, we must first come to realize that there is a major difference between being unhappy and being unjoyful.

I don't want to sound like a word-nerd, even though I probably am one, but the word happy is derived from the word hap which means chance, luck, fortune, or fate. Similarly, the word happen is derived from the word hap. In other words, happiness or unhappiness is directly related to that which is happening or occurring at any given moment in time.

To the contrary, joy, as it is defined in scripture, is not only a fruit of the Spirit, but it is also quite often directly linked to a future event, as opposed to that which is currently happening, and that future event is the return of Jesus Christ when a saint of God will fully receive their redemption or salvation.

For example, Peter said:

1Pe 1:3
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
1Pe 1:4
To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,
1Pe 1:5
Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
1Pe 1:6
Wherein ye greatly rejoice, though now for a season, if need be, ye are in heaviness through manifold temptations:
1Pe 1:7
That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ:
1Pe 1:8
Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory:
1Pe 1:9
Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.

Here, we see that a Christian can greatly rejoice or rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory while being in heaviness through manifold temptations or many-sided trials. This joy is directly related to a lively hope, or to the time when we receive the end of our faith, even the salvation of our souls, or to the time when we receive an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fades not away, reserved in heaven for us. In other words, even if what we are currently experiencing in life due to its many fiery trials leaves us with a feeling of unhappiness, we can still have great joy as we look forward to our eternal rewards.

Here are some more examples of this same principle in scripture.

Heb 12:1
Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,
Heb 12:2
Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

Jesus, who is the author and finisher of our faith and our example, endured the cross by keeping his focus upon the joy that was set before him, or by keeping his focus upon that which awaited him on the other side of his trials. We get a good glimpse of that in the following Messianic psalm.

Psa 16:8
I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
Psa 16:9
Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.
Psa 16:10
For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
Psa 16:11
Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

By setting the LORD always before him, Jesus was able to endure both the cross and the grave because he knew that he had a promise of being resurrected from the dead, as do we if we truly belong to him, and he knew that he would eventually arrive in the Father's presence or at the Father's right hand where there is fullness of joy and pleasures forevermore. As his followers, if we want to maintain our own joy, then we need to always maintain the same mindset that Jesus had while trusting on the promise of eternal life in the world to come no matter what is currently happening in our lives.

Here is another biblical example of what I am saying.

Jhn 16:19
Now Jesus knew that they were desirous to ask him, and said unto them, Do ye enquire among yourselves of that I said, A little while, and ye shall not see me: and again, a little while, and ye shall see me?
Jhn 16:20
Verily, verily, I say unto you, That ye shall weep and lament, but the world shall rejoice: and ye shall be sorrowful, but your sorrow shall be turned into joy.
Jhn 16:21
A woman when she is in travail hath sorrow, because her hour is come: but as soon as she is delivered of the child, she remembereth no more the anguish, for joy that a man is born into the world.
Jhn 16:22
And ye now therefore have sorrow: but I will see you again, and your heart shall rejoice, and your joy no man taketh from you.

In the same manner in which the sorrow and anguish of a pregnant woman in travail is replaced by joy when her child is born, we, as Christians, must endure much sorrow and anguish of our own as we await the time of great joy when Christ returns and our hearts shall rejoice, and our joy no man takes from us.

With these things in mind, and I could give a lot more biblical examples of the same principle, it is normal for a Christian to be unhappy at times, or to not be overly excited about the hap or chance which they are currently experiencing, or to not be overly excited with that which is presently happening in their life.

At the same time, if we are truly walking with Christ, and if we maintain our focus upon that which awaits us on the other side, then we can endure life's many trials and tribulations with joy unspeakable and full of glory.

Am I always happy?

No, I am not.

Am I always joyful?

If I maintain my walk with Christ, and if I keep my focus on the prize at the end of this race called life, then, yes, I am.
Thank you for the media link. And the problem currently I believe is I understand the who we are but it is as if the heart is disconnected from the brain.
You're welcome. If you listen to that series, then I believe that it will offer some comfort to your soul. In it, he describes both the hope we have in this life, and the hope which we have in the world to come.

You've been on my heart and mind, and I am praying for you. Believe me, I know what you're going through, and I have to pray myself through the same things continually. God will see you through.

Thank you, just much to process. The heat of battle has exposed cracks in the armor and the enemy isolated me. I'm beginning to see what needs to be repaired and how dangerous isolation can be.

The year 2024 lesson learned:

Jeremiah 17:8 ESV
He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

I have been the tree planted by the water and I have been the one to wither under the heat as well.

The heat exposed areas that I needed to work on. When the drought came, the tree felt isolated and that isolation created a further spiral to the point of being so withered it began to feel as if the living water was too far to reach.

Fear and anxious thoughts gripped the tree during the year of drought. The fruit was affected by drought and pests. In the end, the year of drought exposed the things that bring death.

The tree although withered felt abandoned until the stream made its way to the tree. The tree has experienced healing and life has returned to make a home in the tree. The pests are being removed.

The analogy can only go so far but the spiritual enemies had wounded, the heat had withered, the isolation had imprisoned, the anxiety had strangled, and the lack of true fellowship was as if I was Uriah in the forefront of the hardest fighting, and then David had his men draw back from him, so that he may be struck down and die.

Surrounded and defeated it exposed weakness. Which in this situation ended up being a great thing.

The word for 2024 is authenticity.

I need to seek out what is quality, authentic, trustworthy, or genuine.

The status quo will not lead to this. Not every relationship will lead to this. Time to focus on quality and authenticity.

You may need this word as well. It took the drought and isolation to help expose this truth. As uncomfortable as it was, I see the lesson within it.
