Is there someone who has been a mentor to you in your walk with the Lord? Who is that person? What have they meant to you?

Have you been a mentor to anyone? How has that enriched your walk with the Lord?

Yes, Robert Fleming (jr I think). He meant a tremendous amount to me then, and moreso now.

In December of 2004, I left my rural Kansas farm to go live in Nebraska City, Nebraska. I had a lot of troubles in the school there. I also didn't like living in town. I also learned how to fight back in that town. He joined a program that was relatively new then, known as TeamMates Mentoring Program which operated within the school and others in the area. He and his wife were devoted to God, and tried many times to talk to me about it. Never forcefully, always polite. I didn't like them doing that because I didn't care. I wish I had listened then. Needless to say, when I moved to where I am now, I hugged him and balled my eyes out. He visited me once here, and I went with him to church. I would like to think that he prayed for me, and that it just was delayed.

EDIT:

I kept contact with him for a little while, but he kept asking me about God, and I got annoyed by it and started ignoring him. Greatest mistake I made, as now that I want to talk to him, I can't.

If you don't get to talk with him in this life, you can in the next :)

C.S Lewis he has helped me with his books, Narnia, screwtape, and a mere Christianity. he is utterly amazing!

My Master's Commission Pastor, Pastor Don Hardy. He treated me in a way a father should, and I needed it. He was always kind, but firm, and did everything in love. He was always honest with me, but withheld certain information for my own good. He and God are tight. He knew the struggles I would have before I had them, and he prepared me and led me through. He knew I was going to be a teacher before I asked him what I should do after Master's, but he didn't tell me he knew until I knew for myself. He discipled me for two years, and now that I'm in college and 3 hours away from him, we still keep in touch. And I seem to joke about it, but I'm quite serious when I say my future husband will have to ask HIM to marry me. That's how much of a father he is. :D

Being a mentor to a girl during my second year there was HARD. She treated me with triple the trouble I gave to my leaders during my first year. It was rough. But I got to see her this past December and we cried about how much she's grown and she thanked me for not giving up when I most wanted to. I found out God HAD used me when I didn't see it. It was just delayed. Like diggs said.

My first Crushy/Love type thing. I've known her as long as I have known myself. She taught me practically everything I know.

We grew up together. She was the Valedictorian and I was the kid who was always trouble and had to go to military school. In all of the classes and sports and friends and Bible Studies we had, I learned so much from her. She was miles ahead of everything and everyone but mostly she was wise beyond her years. Her brilliance was her patience and willingness to spend the time to teach me both big concepts as well as the subtle details that separate schools of thought. Almost every board and card game I know of, except Chess, she taught me how to play.

As adulthood approached, we drifted away. We're still friends but we usually only talk around holidays or briefly during the Summer. We have become very different people than we imagined we would be when we were younger.

Ive had a wonderful older christian woman as my mentor for 10 years now. She is a bit older than my mother, and I was introduced to her when I was about 11. She single handedly started a drama and puppets ministry for children and trained me in puppeteering over 5 years. During my teenage years I developed post traumatic stress disorder because of the abuse and molestation I had suffered at the hands of a family member, and she and her husband became my spiritual parents. I would be a very bitter disillusioned angry woman close to athiesm if it werent for her tender loving support and care. And her marriage taught me what to expect in a godly relationship where my home life sought to tear it down.

Im now 22 and I love and respect this woman as a second mother. I talk to her and ask her a lot of questions that I could not do with my own mother (whom I love and respect very much, but would giggle and not take me seriously if I bought up sensitive topics).

I have mentors that led incredibly dedicated, inspiring lives for Jesus Christ. You might even call them saints.
