How do you feel about churches and ministries that offer merchandise in exchange for "donations?" If you want to sell stuff just sell it, that would be more honest. It's obviously an attempt to avoid reporting income from the sale of merchandise and smacks of greed.

This practice has left such a sour taste in my mouth I wouldn't even think about supporting a ministry that practices it.

How do you feel about this? Does it seem as duplicitous to you as it does to me?

So its not like an op shop? Or selling goods for charity, like an auction? Isnt that just fundraising.

You're kidding, it's all over the place. They sell books, DVDs, tapes or any other thing. They say "for a donation of only xyz we'll send you whatever." It's on TV and on the internet.

How do I feel? Well, I do not donate to them, nor do I desire the various stuff they are trying to pass off.........I also do not donate to a Preacher trying to sell his/her latest Book.

If others want to, that's them.........

and why do you care if you not buying or donating anything anyway...you dont have to buy anything that people sell you know.

If I bought every single that was advertised I would be broke.

Also you dont need to donate just because people ask you. And if you dont want the goods and REALLY want to give money then just tell them.

Let me get this straight, you don't care if greedy ministers, in the name of Jesus mind you, are making a farce of their tax-exempt status to enrich themselves?

The whole purpose of tax exemption is to help organizations who help the community, not enrich the people running the thing. If Perry Stone, for example, was honest and sold his merchandise for personal profit he'd have to report it and pay taxes on it. That's what he's doing, only using the tax loophole to evade paying taxes like every other honest business person.

You could make money yourself. Your wasting your time spreading dogma for nothing when you could be geting payed for it many people make a living out of it, but seariosly it could be all above board the donation side of video that was all i was saying didnt mean to offend you but you do seem to be showing alot of youtube dogma videoes. i thought the thread was about being decieving ? or as you put it duplicitous. and i know that many church fund raising people rely on donations. its common for church people to always use donations as a method as paying, because its tax free like you say. but that does not automatically mean hes conning people. that would be presumptous of you to say so. i thought his youtube video was good tho thanks for posting.. what happened to nark you about this video was you watching it and all of sudden the donation advert came on ? or do you not like perry stone ?

The "sour taste" is the way you look it but not how they do it. Since we are running with Christ and the word maybe just maybe do as He said? Love believes all things. Since you never once asked them why..best to say nothing at all or write them. Ask yourself why the first or one of the first thoughts were negative and why does it even bother you what another child of God does. I think GOD can take care of His own kids..no offense.

I think your confusing the event of Jesus cleansing the temple and the churches today raising money for necessities needed for outreach ministries.

Promoting a book of a certain author of crafts and things of that nature is not against the Lord.
Bake goods and things of that nature goes back to even jesus day.

But selling what is required and given freely now that's a issue.

Sometimes donations are made to the church the church takes these and offers them for a donation.
To put a fixed price on them seems un fair as most donations cost the church little or nothing.
So to ask for a fixed price would be retailing and unfair for one that cannot afford.
The old saying goes one man's junk is another man's treasure fits this situation.
I've seen 5.00 items be bought for 10.00 and 12.00 simply because it was worth it to the buyer.

Did you know over in Israel if you did not bicker over the price of things in some stores it's considered a insult. I think it's called kibitzing or something like that 😊😊

And those ministries must be thinking those donor's are so blind that they don't see the obvious.
That their donation monies are actually buying that merchandise.

One of the longest serving TV huckster in the name of price is Peter Popoff. I think he's somewhere near to 80 yo. while his vanity leads him to dye his hair jet black. How does that not clue his followers in?

Yep, if ministry want donation, it better to be honest, what is for and open book report how much they collected and report what it for. I read some preacher own million dollar house and asking donation for the poor, and people ask why don't you sale your million dollar house buy 300 hundred thousand dollar house and donate the rest to the poor like you teach to your people?

he has not tried to hide it tho.. perry stone said make a donation to buy the video dvd. and there was a colllection of dvds for sale for a 95 dollar donation. Perry stone said exactly what the donation was for. which means the tax people will be well aware which is not tax avasion is it. working and selling goods on a donation bases is leagal and does not mean you are a tax avader. it is how many charity organizations work and function. because they can not aford the ground rent and taxes they would go out of buisness.
