Hillsong, among other things, teaches songwriters. A number of ministries complain about the "Hillsongisation" of Christianity. One of the ways this is done is by music. Christian Courier, for example, calls it the "Hillsong Worship industry". Last count, there were 80 churches, but this changes from time to time.
There are not many Christian bookstores in my area any more. The one I go to has a rack devoted purely to Hillsong CD's. I play guitar and we sing some songs at home. There is not one Hillsong that I play. There are some that are OK, but it's like finding a diamond in a pile of pebbles.
I look at the crowds at Christian concerts on TV. Turn down the sound and could be the Rolling Stones or the Beach Boys playing.
I'll have to address this in a post as there is a serious principle at work here.

What's cool now is to diss Christianity and affirm homosexuality and trans.
So look on the bright side: Hillsong is on the way out, along with just about all other popular Christian culture.
It'll be a LOT easier to tell who the real Christians are though. Give it another three years, I'd say, and there will be no doubt who's real.
Yeah... it's called judging by outward appearances. We're advised not to do that.
Like I said, there is a lot to discuss. We are also told to do everything decently and in order. There is lot that I've seen that does not qualify in that respect.
I kinda sort of maybe know what you mean. Looking at it from the outside, in some respects, seeing the musicians
on a large stage, low lights, fog machines, maybe dancers on stage... yeah, it can look like a rock concert. It can
look like the crowd is adulating the performers. But are they? They are praising and worshipping God/our Lord Jesus.
But the Hells Angels are not in attendance acting as security, there are no mosh pits, riots, people being killed in stampedes. Most concerts are usually very well-planned events, and those in attendance are there not to worship and adore the performers, but God.
Sure, not exactly the same as the world's concerts. However, I see a lot of emotional hype and not a lot of worship in Spirit and in truth. If the church was growing spiritually, I would be all in favour of such concerts. I don't see that.
Oh sure, humans always bring a lot of human junk to everything where a big group of humans gets together. Even the best churches have a lot of people who come only because it is their social life. (Side note: I think that's the real reason a lot of churches are dying. Internet social media is much easier than going to a building to socialize. The Christians who are only in it for the social club aspect are not coming anymore.)
Now if the SINGERS are just generating hype... That's different. Nothing to gain from going to those concerts. But all styles of music have them, from southern gospel to bluegrass gospel to christian rap - whatever your favorite style, more than half the singers are just in it for the money and hype. (We don't call it "hype" in southern gospel, but it's still the samee thing, just less energy output.)
That doesn't mean some styles are better or worse for Christian music. Anybody points to some examples in (style they hate,) I can point to the same kind of examples in (style they love.) If they point to counterexamples in (style they love,) singers or groups that really do music as a ministry, I can point to the same counterexamples in (style they hate.)

The author is an atheist now.
I believe it will be a blessing when church meetings are made up of real Christians. Lower attendances do not mean death. The time will come when Christianity is no longer acceptable and churches will meet in secret. This is already true in many countries. When a mother can be arrested in front of her children for saying that men are men and women are women, you know that country has rejected Jesus. And that happened just recently in England.
I cannot find anything attesting to the fact that Joel Houston is an atheist. Do you have a source?

1. That guy is using syncopation incorrectly. Syncopation is not putting the accent on two and four. Syncopation is disruption of the inherent rhythm in a song.
2. Songs built around the half beat are not inherently evil. That is bull.
3. We really need some citations for his claim that all devil worship songs to gain their power from syncopation. Even though syncopation is the wrong word to use in reference to songs built around the half beat, he still needs to prove his statement with some sources.
4. There's a metric ton of self aggrandizing secular rap song built around the whole beat just like "Jesus loves me." Does that mean they are good and wholesome, even though they talk about killing, drinking, drugs and sexual depravity?

Here I Am to worship is neither syncopation nor built on the half beat. That is a regular old song built around the whole beat.
I "cherry pick" too. and I'm not ashamed of it. I listen to the first couple of lines, then choose whether I wish to continue listening or shut it off. If it's not totally worshiping YHWH or Yeshua, it's not for me.
Not the cherry picking I was talking about, but... I do your kind of cherry picking too. A lot of the albums in my collection are not complete, because I just didn't want to keep this or that song.
