I love the modesty debates I guess its to each his own. I thought the bathing suits in the video looked terrible. But then I don't go to the beach to get an eyeful of bikinis anyways. I really dont find bikinis immodest either. I guess if they are wearing a thong and a barely there cover the nipples top then sure. But on average, people are just far too uptight about this.

Maybe this goes without saying but I think that choosing a modest suit is mostly about evaluating the audience/environment. I have no problem wearing a one piece at the public pool (open only for women in the a.m.) when I go to swim, or even when I know only women will be around. But that's me.
 
I agree about being modest about choosing a bikini etc. I personally have never been comfortable in one even though I do occasionally wear them however I have never gone for a super revealing one simply because I guess I don't understand why anyone would want to show that much of their body to the public? There's a place and a time for everything and IMHO the beach is not a place for immodesty simply because 1. You have people drinking, which could possibly lead to sexual harassment or even worse if things get out of hand 2. There are children there one should set an example for them and 3. If you respect yourself and value yourself enough why would you feel the need to behave in this manner? Again.. a place and a time for everything.

Even if I'm in the presence of just women I still dress modestly and respectably, e.g. no clothing that exposes nakedness, form-fitting, etc.
 
So the bottom line is:
Girls - Cover yourselves
Guys - Don't be perverts

Is this a valid conclusion?

I was watching a documentary on cannibalism in extremely remote parts of New Guinea. The villiages are virtually untouched by the modern world except for a few pieces of cast-off clothing the we would have thrown out years ago. But some missionaries had planted some church-huts there many years ago, and everyone believed that Christianity was the only thing that had kept cannibalism at bay. These Christian women were frequently topless and the men wore ceremonial penis sheaths.

Modesty is relative.

People, dress in a manner that is respectful to God, others, and yourself.
People, keep your minds pure and don't judge your brothers or sisters that have not been lead by the Lord on this same path to modesty as you have.

Ladies, please don't listen to people like Misty77 who think that decency in dressing is legalism. Don't imitate the worldly fashion standards. When you dress modestly you are revealing your self-respect and glorifying God. :)

"In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array; But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works" (1 Timothy 2:9-10).

Interesting video, but I have a question about the research regarding different parts of the male brain lighting up. I want to see a new study. I want to know if the results can be changed by culture. So for example, if we were to scan the brains of Islamic males raised with in a society where women are completely concealed in public and then compare them to the brains of men who are life members of a nudist colony and who are completely accustomed to seeing naked women will the results be different? I have a strong suspicion the results will be different between the two groups. It would be interesting to find.

Good job sewing discord among the brothers [or sisters in this case]!

You have completely misconstrued my stance, which I'm sure I have explained multiple times. Modesty is relative to one's culture. Everyone needs to dress in a way that respects God, others, and themselves. Everyone needs to not judge others who have not mastered (in your opinion) this aspect of the Christian walk.

Dressing appropriate for the occasion and your station in life is modesty and is Biblical. But when a human has the audacity to define modesty for everyone, that is legalism. Our forefathers (and mothers) in the faith would have defined modesty differently in every generation. Each person needs to dress themselves respectfully and prayerfully and not get upset at others exercising their liberty in Christ.
 
I'm all for modesty. In anything I wear I dress modest, including swim wear. It's not because I'm shy either. If I really wanted to I could just let everything hang out. ;) My swimwear choice is usually a top that covers all the way down to my tummy and little shorts, enough to cover my buns.

If I ever want a tan I do it in my own yard where no one is there.

I like to represent and honor God so I like to be modest with my temple. If I was ever face-to-face with Jesus I'll say this, I would not want to be half naked! Most likely he wouldn't care and would love me anyway, but still.
