How do you define it?
Do you think there are set boundaries, or it's more definable on a personal level.
For example, do you think two piece bathing suits are immodest? Skirts above the knee?
Strapless items? Are there shoes you find immodest (yes, I've heard people say it. Lol)
 
i think to a degree its personal, but there would be areas where it starts being more obvious. My personal opinion is what is generally acceptable among modern Christian women is a bit much. I'm not a 'dresses below the knee's only' type, but i think its too much. I can't speak for men, as i'm not looking at men in that manner. so women may feel the same about how men dress, i'm not sure.
and to those people who say 'you just need to learn to control yourself', yes, that is true. but at the same time the bible does talk that you should adjust your behavior for those of other believers. it does not teach your right to do whatever you want and if someone stumbles its their fault. its not one persons responsibility, its everyone's.
 
to me modesty is being comfortable and simple (it doesnt mean without style) ,without intention to draw attention to the outside ,i believe nobody wants that in the end , but be recognized by what they have inside. the question we should always ask is why , why am i going to buy this or that item , is it going to bring glory to God somehow? is it going to be a barrier when dealing with someone (guys, older people etc) ? i once heard or read somewhere that we should always dress taking into account what Jesus would think if He were by our side , that sums up modesty i think.

its also true that there are people who aren't yet aware what impact how they dress will have on other people, sometimes because that's all they have and still their hearts dont condemn them . now if this or that piece of clothing will look immodest ,i think that'll depend on the body , on the material of the clothes, the cut etc. for example, skinny jeans on skinny legs will look different than skinny jeans on more voluminous and "curvy legs", a child with a 2 piece bathing suit doesnt look immodest but a woman .... then it's another story.... it would be helpful if u managed to find out what a godly man thinks. :)

I do think that we should be careful with what we wear for others, but I do think a little responsibility is their own. I mean, for some guys, wearing open toed shoes could make a woman seem immodest.

So you just think it's women that wear immodest bathing suits? A guy with no shirt on is showing almost just as much skin.

I think body type is a big factor. Like for me, I'm rather large chested, so I practically have to wear a turtle neck to keep from any chest showing (and by chest I don't mean cleavage, I literally mean my chest, I've been told showing that is immodest). Or a really tall girl might end up showing a little more leg in skirts, no matter how long she gets them.
Now two piece bathing suits, that's a big thing for me. I don't think they're necessarily immodest. Honestly, I've seen monokinis more immodest. But something that really bothers me is when women walk around in their two piece bikinis like it's an outfit. I wear one simply because I cannot stand the feel of wet anything, so I try to minimize it as much as possible. No one really sees me in it because as soon as I'm out of the water, I'm back in clothes. Lol
 
I don't know I nthink modesty is a personal thing. Like I can see a woman in a bikini and i can be like whatever, while some people obviously can't. Perhaps its because of things i did before i was saved, but I'm pretty desensitized to the whole modesty thing. It takes a lot for me to be like wow thats bad. otherwise they are just clothes.

Not too mention some women do to curves or voluptousness cant really help it no matter what they wear.

I think it's more definable on a personal level.
Some two pieces are very immodest (ya know the kind, basically a triangle that only overs the nipple and nothing more) but there are ones out there that are fine, I personally don't like one pieces and always buy a bikini.
My skirts are usually above the knee, I've just never been into the long skirts.. but I don't do those micro mini's..and if I feel it's necessary for a particular skirt/windy day I may wear a pair of boxer shorts underneath.


I don't dress to impress anyone, I dress for myself and my likes.

There are some who do not feel comfortable dressing in the clothes that I do, and there is nothing wrong with that, too each their own.
