I understand your confusion, since the Abrahamic covenant is one covenant, but with many promises making it a Composite covenant. I think a better terminology would be what "promise" am I referring to?

But when I am referring to the Abrahamic covenant, I am referring to all the promises. God chose the people of Israel through Abraham, Issac, and Jacob to be the inheritors of a great nation, a people uniquely His own, specific land with defined borders as an everlasting possession, families of the earth would be blessed through them, the seed that would bless all nations with salvation would come through them, Jesus (what you were referring to I assume).

All these promises God chose the people of Israel to be blessed with. So, in this sense, Jews are chosen, but not in the same sense of new covenant promises as that is a different covenant. Can you see how Jews are still chosen outside of the new covenant?

I'm not confused; you are. The covenants of Genesis 15;18 and Genesis 17 were two separate covenants. God did not make an unconditional covenant with Abraham in Genesis 15 and then later modify it to become conditional, which the covenant of circumcision in Genesis 17 was. Scripture plainly says that once a covenant is ratified additions, or modifications, cannot be made to it. Therefore, the covenants of Genesis 15 and 17 had to have been two separate covenants

Brethren, I speak after the manner of men; Though it be but a man's covenant, yet if it be confirmed, no man disannulleth, or addeth thereto. Galatians 3:15

The blood covenant of Genesis 15:18 dealt only with the land, which Paul makes clear in Galatians 3:16 was promised to Christ, not Israel. In fact, it says that all of God's promises were made to Abraham and Christ, not to Israel.

Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. Galatians 3:16

The covenant of Genesis 17, on the other hand, concerned Abraham's many descendants, ie, Israel, and what was required for them to be his people, ie, circumcision. That covenant has been superseded by the new covenant, in which spiritual circumcision through faith is the seal of being God's chosen people.

So no, I see no mechanism for Jews to be chosen outside of the new covenant.

the Abrahamic covenant is one covenant, but with many promises making it a Composite covenant.

God made 2 covenants with Abraham. The first was an unconditional blood covenant (the most serious kind) promising to give the land to Christ.

And he gave him none inheritance in [the land], no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give [the land] to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child. Acts 7:5
In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates: Genesis 15:18

Approximately 14 years later God made another covenant with Abraham, a conditional covenant (not a blood covenant), promising to make him a father of many nations and establishing the condition for becoming God's people. This was a separate covenant called the covenant of circumcision.

And [God] gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so Abraham begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat the twelve patriarchs. Acts 7:8
And I will make my covenant between me and thee, and will multiply thee exceedingly. Genesis 17:2
This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised. Genesis 17:10
So the term Abrahamic covenant is a misnomer that creates confusion and error because God made two separate covenants with Abraham. One concerning the land and one concerning the people of God

Israel was instrumental in serving to produce Messiah for all of humanity,
so now that its mission is accomplished, Jews should become Christians along with Muslims and other Gentiles.

You don't believe scripture, you reject Tulip, so you've been shown scripture and reject it

I believe GW, not TULIP, because you have shown no Scripture that supports it in context,
contradicting MFW implicit in John 3:16, Rom. 2:11, 1Tim. 2:3-4 and demeaning God's love and justness.

Then you reject the truth

No, but you reject replying to what I said, preferring to omit and proof-text posts as you do GW.
The full text of what I said was this: "I believe GW, not TULIP, because you have shown no Scripture

Hi ChristRosefromthedead,

I hope I did not offend you by saying you are confused, but if your confused about Israel, your confused about the bible. I mean this in no disrespect when I say this. Even though Genesis 15 and 17 occur at different times and emphasize different elements, Scripture consistently refers to “the covenant” with Abraham in the singular.
Examples:
  • Exodus 2:24 — “God remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”
  • Leviticus 26:42 — “I will remember My covenant with Jacob… Isaac… Abraham.”
  • Psalm 105:8–11 — “He remembers His covenant forever… the covenant He made with Abraham.”
The Bible never speaks of “the covenants with Abraham.” Always one covenant, with multiple reaffirmations and expansions.

Also, neither Genesis 15 or 17 were conditional, since chapter 15 is directly related to chapter 17. The covenant made with Abraham in chapter 15 where God alone passes between the pieces was made as a binding act to say that all the promises I made to you (Abraham) will come forth, (including his many descendants as clearly stated in 15).

The act of circumcision in chapter 17 was the sign of this covenant in chapter 15. To give you a modern example, it is like an inheritance from parents, a will is drawn up by them, so when the parents die, the inheritance is already legally yours because the will (or estate law) says so. The inheritance exists because of the parent’s decision, not the child’s action. Not the inheritance itself — only the administrative transfer, does the children need to sign papers to release the inheritance that is already theirs.

So, God spoke the promises of blessings to Abraham, like parents today make promises to their children in their wills. Like God passing between the pieces, made those promises binding, is like parents passing on to the next life making their will binding to their children. Like the sign of circumcision was the spiritual and physical transfer of those promises to Abraham, so is the signature the administrative transfer of the promises made by the parents in the will to their children. Hence, Genesis 17 does not introduce conditions for the covenant — only for participation in the sign. So, while the sign is conditional, the covenant itself is not.

Chapter 12 was the promises, chapter 15 was the covenant ratified (unconditional), chapter 17 covenant expanded + sign added (conditional sign, unconditional covenant) (17 did add the promise of “nations” and “kings”, but same covenant). Therefore, the Abrahamic covenant is one composite covenant of different promises.

I can comment on the other comments you made, but before we can move forward, I think it is important to understand the Abrahamic covenant, because it we don't understand this covenant, we will be talking in circles about Jewish people being chosen by God. So, can you concur that the Abrahamic covenant is one covenant made up of multiple promises? Thanks.

The Bible never speaks of “the covenants with Abraham.” Always one covenant, with multiple reaffirmations and expansions.

Again, covenants once made can't be modified. When Israel broke the covenant made at Sinai, God didn't modify that covenant in order to add curses and blessings to it just before they entered the promised land; he made an entirely new covenant.

These are the words of the covenant, which the LORD commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, besides the covenant which he made with them in Horeb. Deuteronomy 29:1

The covenant (singular) with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob was the covenant of circumcision. The covenant of Genesis 15:18 had nothing to do with Israel, as I told you earlier, but you haven't yet addressed, which I wish you would because it completely undermines your arguments. Paul clearly stated in Galatians 3:16 that all of the promises were to Christ, not the people of Israel (other than Christ).

The covenant of circumcision (Genesis 17) was most definitely a conditional covenant. God explicitly stated that obedience to the covenant was required to be a partaker of the promises.

This is my covenant, which ye shall keep, between me and you and thy seed after thee; Every man child among you shall be circumcised. Genesis 17:10
And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he hath broken my covenant. Genesis 17:14

Again, you need to address what Paul wrote in Galatians 3:16 because it directly contradicts your assertions:

Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed, which is Christ. Galatians 3:16

Jesus is Israel that saves His Israel !

1 Cor 2:12-13

12 Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God.

13 Which things also we speak, not in the words which man's wisdom teacheth, but which the Holy Ghost teacheth; comparing spiritual things with spiritual.

All scripture first and foremost is spiritual truth, inspired by the Living God 2 Tim 3:16

16 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:

This applies to both OT and NT. The Lord Jesus Christ fulfills all scripture, all was centered in Him Lk 24:26-27

26 Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?

27 And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.

Jesus must open our understanding so that we can receive the spiritual meaning of the scriptures, and not just the letter of scripture. Lk 24:44-45

44And he said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning me.

45Then opened he their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures,

They needed to have a spiritual understanding of the scriptures as how they pertained to Christ, again pointing to what Paul meant in 1 Cor 2:13

The Holy Spirit now continues what Christ did, in opening up the understanding of scripture OT and NT to see the Glories of Christ. Jesus said that when He shall come into the world that He shall:

Jn 16:13-14

13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.

14 He shall glorify me:

The bringing into existence of National Israel was a type of Christ !

Christ is and always has been the True Israel of God, National Israel was merely a type.

Lets look at this verse and see how it is spiritually applied to Christ.

Ex 4:22

22 And thou shalt say unto Pharaoh, Thus saith the LORD, Israel is my son, even my firstborn:

The inspired writer was inspired to write these words because The Nation of Israel was a type liken unto Christ, Gods Firstborn Son

Rom 8:29

For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

Col 1:15

Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature:

And through Him the True Israel of God will be delivered from bondage and sin, sins servitude Jn 8:32-36

32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.

33
They answered him, We be Abraham's seed, and were never in bondage to any man: how sayest thou, Ye shall be made free?

34 Jesus answered them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin.

35
And the servant abideth not in the house for ever: but the Son abideth ever.

36 If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

This nation was designated Gods Firstborn only because it was typical and a shadow , a visible likeness of the True Israel of God, Christ. National Israel was also a type of the body of Christ, for the Head and Body are one.

The Nation was termed the firstfruits Jer 2:3a

Israel was holiness unto the LORD, and the firstfruits of his increase:

Because Christ is the Firstfruit [1 Cor 15:23]

The nation was termed Chosen Deut 7:6 because Christ was Chosen Isa 42:1

Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles.

The Nation was called Son Ex 4:22 because Christ is the Son Jn 8:36

If the Son therefore shall make you free, ye shall be free indeed.

It is only because of Christ all these designations find realization. And Inheritance into Israel is not by natural birth, but by being born of the seed of Christ Isa 53:10

Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed, he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in his hand.

The incorruptible seed of the word of God 1 Pet 1:23

23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

The Inheritance of this Israel is not subject to corruption 1 Pet 1:4

4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fadeth not away, reserved in heaven for you,

This is the Inheritance that Abraham sought after as the Father of the Faithful Heb 11:16

16 But now they desire a better country, that is, an heavenly: wherefore God is not ashamed to be called their God: for he hath prepared for them a city.

This was fulfilled in Christ, The Israel of God, Gods Firstborn Son !

And all that belong to Christ, belong to The Israel of God Gal 3:29

29 And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed [Israel], and heirs according to the promise.

Gal 3:16

16 Now to Abraham and his seed were the promises made. He saith not, And to seeds, as of many; but as of one, And to thy seed [Israel], which is Christ. 3

Thanks.

You're asking me to agree with something you haven't yet effectively demonstrated with scripture. I understand what people have been taught and repeat as if it's the indisputable truth, but it doesn't match what scripture says. For example, Acts 7 mentions two separate covenants with Abraham. Verses 5-7 are describing the unconditional blood covenant of Genesis 15, and verse 8 describes the conditional covenant of circumcision in Genesis 17 (not a blood covenant).

And he gave him none inheritance in [the land], no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give [the land] to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child. And God spake on this wise, That his seed should sojourn in a strange land; and that they should bring them into bondage, and entreat them evil four hundred years. And the nation to whom they shall be in bondage will I judge, said God: and after that shall they come forth, and serve me in this place. Acts 7:5-7
And he gave him the covenant of circumcision: and so Abraham begat Isaac, and circumcised him the eighth day; and Isaac begat Jacob; and Jacob begat the twelve patriarchs. Acts 7:8

So the conditional covenant of Genesis 17 is called the covenant of circumcision, but the unconditional covenant of Genesis 15 had nothing to do with circumcision, so it cannot be called the covenant of circumcision.

It would be edifying if you could demonstrate with scripture that there was only one covenant (as I have done showing that there were two covenants), rather than with just opinion and rote.

I will examine these verses you used as examples

Exodus 2:24 — “God remembered His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.”

God didn't make the covenant of Genesis 15 with Abraham, Isaac and Jacob. He made it with Abraham alone. This is verified in Acts 7:5 that doesn't mention Isaac or Jacob. The covenant made with all three men was the covenant of circumcision. By becoming circumcised all three men entered into that covenant with God.

Leviticus 26:42 — “I will remember My covenant with Jacob… Isaac… Abraham.”

This verse actually states this:

Then will I remember my covenant with Jacob, and also my covenant with Isaac, and also my covenant with Abraham will I remember; and I will remember the land. Leviticus 26:42

This doesn't mean that there were three separate covenants, it means that all three men entered into the covenant of circumcision through circumcision.

Psalm 105:8–11 — “He remembers His covenant forever… the covenant He made with Abraham.”

This is the full Psalms 105:8-11 pericope. It describes what was promised in the covenant of circumcision.

He hath remembered his covenant forever, the word which he commanded to a thousand generations. Which covenant he made with Abraham, and his oath unto Isaac; And confirmed the same unto Jacob for a law, and to Israel for an everlasting covenant: Saying, Unto thee will I give the land of Canaan, the lot of your inheritance: Psalms 105:8-11

The covenant of circumcision
And I will establish my covenant between me and thee and thy seed after thee in their generations for an everlasting covenant, to be a God unto thee, and to thy seed after thee. And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God. Genesis 17:7-8

Hello Christrosefromthedead,

Not confused about Israel, but I am confused by your comments about covenants once made it cannot be modified. Why are you arguing that with me? You are preaching to the choir about that point. What does the Moab covenant and the Sinai covenant have to do with the Abrahamic covenant? Yes, they are two covenants by Moses, but that does not mean that the sign of circumcision is not part of the Abrahamic covenant. Three separate events, three different covenants.

As I stated before, I will address "seed" comment you stated after we can settle that the sign of circumcision is part of the Abrahamic covenant otherwise we will talk in circles and I do not want to do that, because the purpose of this forum is not to try to win arguments, but to be humble enough to allow others to sharpen each other in the faith. I am willing to humble myself to any incorrect thinking if it is clear I am incorrect in my thinking. So if you present to me something that I can say, " what Christrosefromthedead presented to me is clearly theological accurate and make sense" then I would humbly except your correction, otherwise why are we here?

You said that I did not address your position that chapter 15 and 17 are different, but I clearly did. Restating your position that 15 and 17 are different does not disprove my points I have already presented. The burden of prove is on you now to prove that what I wrote is incorrect. I also presented my argument as to why chapter 17 is not conditional, but rather an acknowledgement to receive blessings. Yes, the people of Israel must assign themselves to circumcision before receiving the blessings of the Abrahamic covenant, just like those who have a will must sign papers before receiving their inheritance. The inheritance is unconditional; hence it is already theirs, they just need to sign the papers to claim it. The same is true with the blessings of the Abrahamic covenant. Circumcision is proof that Israel is the inheritors of those blessings just as signed papers is proof that a person is the inheritor of that will.

You also stated that you "understand what people have been taught and repeat as if it's the indisputable truth, but it doesn't match what scripture says." People are not just saying this based on nothing, this is backed by Jewish scholarship, Christian Old Testament scholarship, Ancient Near Eastern covenant studies, Critical scholarship, Evangelical scholarship, and Catholic scholarship. If you would like I can cite those sources. So, are you saying that you know better than all these scholarships?

Acts 7:5–8 — What Stephen is saying in a nutshell: God gave Abraham no inheritance yet, God promised the land to Abraham’s descendants, God foretold the 400-year sojourning and slavery, God gave Abraham the covenant of circumcision. The key point: Stephen treats Genesis 15 and 17 as ONE covenant. Stephen called it the covenant of circumcision to describe the Abrahamic covenant, because circumcision is the sign for the Abrahamic covenant in the same way the covenant of the rainbow is the Noahic sign and the covenant of the Sabbath is the Mosaic sign.

Hence, Acts 7 only strengthens my position. Any other scripture you would like to present or are you now willing to acknowledge that it is one covenant? Thanks, and blessings.
