Mormons are misunderstood That is because their purpose is to get you to believe that they are the true church. They believe that if you have not been given authority by the priesthood of the church, that you cannot preach or teach the word of God. The book itself, I believe that it is real., because it has true knowledge of God and Jesus. I do believe that this book is for the Americas, and it's people. Just like the Jews had a hard time believing Jesus,because they could not tear themselves away from the teachings of Moses, and the old law..They were calling Abraham their Father,because they claimed to have had the same faith as Abraham. Anything new to them ,they considered was of the devil.. America Likewise cannot tear themselves away from the ancient teachings of the bible, and accept modern day teachings. This book is not of worldly wisdom,because the world cannot comprehend such knowledge. As they do not know God or the things pertaining to God. Like the churches in the ancient days, and even the churches of this age have done. They have inserted their own doctrine concerning this book,because what they believe in is not in this book. The same way Jesus told his disciples, beware of the leaven of the scribes and Pharasees, they will add their own doctrine to what he had taught them. That was the symbol of the unleaven bread. , add nothing to it and it will not rise. keep it in it's true form. As for those golden tablets, I was told by an Elder that those tablets were protected by by an Angel of the Lord while Joseph Smith copied all things from it, and when he was finished, the tablets were retrieved back into heaven.
