The government walked us in the storm through the trench,
we waded through mud as our boots got drenched.
I reached out my hand to quickly stop a sudden fall,
and got my hand covered in sap from a freshly cut pine log wall.
One could hear the floor scratch as we walked off our muck,
but on the palms of my hands, dirt remained stuck.
The iron bars closed us within our square-meter new home,
in the middle was our only water fixture; a single toilet bowl.
